Passport name change?

My wife (the U.S citizen) is wanting to change her last name on her passport to her new married name. She had recieved her passport in Jan of 2005. Will it cost us anything to change this? and how do we go about it?

Your wife will have to complete a form and pay a fee. Unfortunely, nothing is free. Darn!!! LOL! If someone doesn't give you specifics, I will look it up and post the information for us. Cheers!!! - Sheriff Uling

She will have to pay the fee to renew the passport. They only do it for free if it's been less than a year since the passport was issued, and hers has been almost two years now.

Please entertain this question: What happens to the pages of your passport that are stamped already from travels abroad when your passport is updated due to a name change?

Oh! For some reason, I was under the impression that we had to surrender it during the request for an update (name change, error, etc). However, I don't know the rules and had not looked it up... so I was guessing. LOL! Thanks a bunch!

I had to double check, my mother renewed a while ago and just had make sure that the rules had not changed.

I, literally, JUST did this.

Send in the form (which links have generously been provided for), the photos, the marriage cert and 65 bucks....and your old passport.

You'll get back your old passport with holes punched in it - no good anymore, your marriage cert back, and your NEW passport!!!

Just to clarify you DO get the old one back but it's useless
