I'm waiting for my NOA2 (sooooon!) and am tossing around the idea of moving back to my parents to save a month or two on rent - or at least avoiding paying an extra month of rent in the event I'm only at my place for a week into a new month as I'd really like to move as soon as I can.

Originally, I just wanted wait for my visa to be in my hand (safer) but I really want to cut costs. I was thinking of going http://www.upack.com/ and they can store the cube fairly cheaply. I figure if I go this route, once I get my interview date I can officially plan moving to my parents. I need 1 month notice for my current residence.

Would it be okay, say during my interview to update my address to a new one? Or is this something I need to change sooner? I'm worried about my visa/important paperwork being sent to the wrong address. Can I pick up my Visa?

I'm going through Vancouver consulate.

I moved between my NOA1 and 2, my USC fiance called the USCIS and was told to send a letter to the CSC where our application was being processed, letting them know about my new address. He did this, but there was no way of verifying if they even read the letter or just tossed it in the trash. So anyways, my "packet 3" from the embassy arrived a few days late since it had been sent to my old address. Luckily not a big deal in Finland where the post office is very efficient and always finds you. In all my forms and during my interview I made sure that they had my new address, even put colorful post-its on forms that I sent in before my interview. I was able to pick up my visa the day after my interview in Helsinki but you may wanna have a Canadian answer that for you. So my advice is to do whatever suits you best, and assume nothing gets updated without you holding their hand through it... ;)

If your parents live nearby then sure, why not. It's probably safer to wait for your NOA2 before you move just in case (god forbid) it doesn't go through as planned. *I'm sure everything will be fine!*

I tossed the idea of moving home around but I'm glad I didn't. My parents live about an 8 hour drive away from here and everything you need to get done is in Vancouver so it was much easier for me to be here rather than at home. I also didn't want to quit my job because I still needed to save money for my move.

That said, if my parents lived here I would have moved home in a heartbeat!

Good luck with your decision. Maybe talk to your parents about it?

Oh and as for changing your address... If it's before you get your NOA2 you would have to update your address with USCIS (I think). If it's after you've received your letter from the Vancouver consulate you can just email them the new address and they will change it for you. I moved while I was doing packet 3 and had no issues. Just make sure you notify the right people.

It's probably best to wait until you receive your NOA2. You can call Department of State to inquire about packet 3 and packet 4, i.e. you don't have to physically receive them in the mail before putting together packet 3 or scheduling an interview. Not sure what forms Vancouver asks for in packet 3 (I believe they require less than Montreal) but your new address will be on those and also when you register with the CSC website to schedule an interview you will use your updated address.

My Dad is so down with me moving there, I guess it's because they get to see me more before I move out of country. My parents are a farther commute to work, but totally do-able. However, is not do-able when I do my medical for showing up at 630am.

But yeah, I'll wait for my NOA2 and packet 3 to come first so it's less chance of error.

I was googling around VJ and saw people picking up their visa at DHL vancouver office.. wonder if they still do that?

It sounds like you're asking for verification that you can change your address at the interview. The answer is yes. There was also an option to change it at the Package 3 stage but someone who is current with this can verify that as things have changed since I went through the process.

I would wait for your NOA2 then move back home. The medical will suck but it's one day. I took a taxi from Poco at 4am and it was 80$! Totally sucked! Oh well...

No, you can't pick up your Visa from the Vancouver consulate. You can have it delivered to a DHL office. I believe there are only ones in Richmond and Burnaby. However, if you aren't in a huge rush, you can have them deliver it to you for about 15$ I think. I can give you more detailed instructions if you'd like but it's late and I'm sleepy. :)
