I-130 - Question on how citizenship was acquired

Hi,

My wife is a US citizen who will be applying for a green card on my behalf (adjustment of status route). She was born in Malaysia to parents with Malaysian citizenship. The family moved to the US in the 1980s and the family obtained US citizenship in the 1980s when she was a child.

Which option is appropriate for her?

My citizenship was acquired through:

-Birth in the US

-Naturalization. Give certificate number and date and place of issuance

-Parents. Have you obtained a certificate of citizenship in your own name?

I'm asking because she tried looking for documents and can't find any such documents such as naturalization certificate or citizenship certificate.

Based on the following, it sounds like she acquired it through her parents.

A child automatically becomes a U.S. citizen when all of the following conditions have been met under section 320 of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), as amended by the Child Citizenship Act (CCA):

• At least one parent of the child is a U.S. citizen, whether by birth or naturalization.
• The child is under the age of 18 years.
• The child is residing in the United States in the legal and physical custody of the U.S. citizen parent based on a lawful admission for permanent residence.
• An adopted child may automatically become a citizen under section 320 of the INA if the child satisfies the requirements applicable to adopted children under sections 101(b)(1)(E), or (G) of the INA.

It would be through parents. If she went and got a certificate of citizenship for herself, also check yes and include the information asked for. My husband was the same!
