Adil if you are petitioning for a wife then it is not a big issue to wait out the K3. Look at what AE wrote and he is correct that you can keep waiting on the K3 and then you can interview earlier than the CR1. I try to explain to way out the pros and cons since most of the men are stuck for long AOS and cannot do anything once they arrive in the USA. Hopefully, they will not take much longer to approve your K3 and your wife will be here soon.

I'll take your guys' advise and wait for the K3 then. Should I send the DS230 part 1 to my wife just to get it signed though? That way when the K3 is approved, I'll send the DS230 part 1, so the NVC can send everything to the Islamabad embassy. By that time the interview date for the K3 might be set, huh?

Then they might change the K3 interview to a CR-1 interview, right?

Is this just wishful thinking? ;)

Someone please advise...

Some have been known to have had their K-3 interview switched to the CR-1. Others have had their K-3 interview cancelled and a new date scheduled for the CR-1. You would need to check with the consulate as to how they would handle it. You must remember that if the approved I-130 with your CR-1 case arrives at the consulate prior to the K-3 interview being held then it will over-ride the K-3, with the K-3 being cancelled.

It's pretty risky no matter what then. I wish I didn't waste $450 for the affidavit and the immigration bills.

Adil Aussie is correct in what she says. Our K3 went to the embassy and one week later our CR1 arrived. The embassy never gave us an option and cancelled the K3 and we had to wait on our CR1. You also cannot interview for the K3 and ask for it to be upgraded to the CR 1 unless the CR1 is approved and at Islamabad at the time of the K 3 interview.

I know of few cases the K3 is at the embassy and interview is already scheduled when the CR1 gets to the embassy. Then they asked for the K3 to be upgraded when they do the K3 interview.

So when the K3 interview date is set and the CR-1 later arrives to the embassy in Islamabad, they'll upgrade the interview case to CR-1? Does the embassy of Islamabad do that?

So when the K3 interview date is set and the CR-1 later arrives to the embassy in Islamabad, they'll upgrade the interview case to CR-1?

If both cases are completed and at the embassy and you are interviewing for the K3 you can ask them at the time you wish the interview to be changed to CR1. If they arrive too close together the K3 can be cancelled all together and the embassy will let you know which visa you will be interviewing for.

Does the embassy of Islamabad do that?

Yes, Islamabad does all their own interivew scheduling.

Hello Faal4anisa,

You are in some type of checks being done at the service center. It could be that either one of you had a name hit and they are investigating it before they are able to proceed further or they have additional processing coming from the IMBRA. One thing I have learned about the times to contact them is that you cannot go by the 45 or 60 days. They mean you have to go by Monday - Friday and no holidays to count up to the alloted days.

Hope you hear something soon.

Mary
