Hi Fellow Indians,

I'd appreciate it if you could clarify this for me. When I called up the Passport Seva Kendra to inquire about the PCC, their response was that you would get a PCC only from the state/city you're currently residing in. I live in Kerala now, but I lived in Bangalore for 16 years, and according to the visa requirements, you're supposed to get a PCC from any place you've stayed in for over six months from 16 years of age. Has anyone else experienced something similar? Else, have you been able to obtain PCCs from every city/state you've lived in?

Looking forward to something positive here.

I had resided in 3 different places excluding my home town since I turned 16 and I obtained a PCC from each place. I confirmed the requirement with a lawyer as well and was told to obtain all of these. Usually the forms are available with the passport office. The form specifies what documents you need to attach with the application.

I am not sure if you can get by without obtaining the PCC from a previous place of residence. If possible, I would suggest obtaining it.

I had obtained 2 PCC

1. From Police

2. Passport Office

One from police included all the police station under whos jurdiction I had lived. For me all the police stations were from Mumbai, so CID HQ writes the letter, but they use input from all the police station.

When I requested for the Police PCC at CID HQ they did ask me for all the police stations I lived under and technically they would request each police station for information, but most of you are aware if you wait then your file is never going to move at local police station until you make a visit.

For my case I talked with the local police and made sure they were happy and they would send the file back to CID HQ so they can issue a letter.

I got my PCC from the passport office yesterday. But if I need a PCC from Bangalore, then I wonder how I should go about it, cos I left the city a few years ago and don't have an address there.

Divya,

i think u need to get PCC only from local passport office

For the Police PCC you apply to the Police Dept of the current city where you are living and also you tell them what all places you have lived and what police jurisdiction those address are.

Then police dept would send letter to this other police stations asking for the your record.

Once the Police dept where you are living currently receives this response they would issue you a PCC.

Now a day process is more easier thru PSK. No such hassle is required.

After age of 16, I have lived in 3 different state of India, and multiple cities and was not required to give all these records. It was super easy and was granted PCC within 4 hours from PSK Chennai ( even though my passport address was from different state and not from Chennai ). This single PCC was accepted in Mumbai Consulate for no problem at all.

PSK will only issue passport clearance, the process I mentioned was to obtain a police clearance.

When I applied for Visa both were required and they were working to eliminate police clearance.
