Yesterday my husband spoke with a representative of USCIS to expedite our cases

because my husband lost his job and he is the petitioner, and therefore strongly affects us

economically, because I depend on the money that he send.

The representative told him that is a reason to expedite our cases, but we would need

real proof that my husband was laid off for no reason.

evidence that affects us economically.

The sentative asked several questions.

Then he said that 5 to 8 days I would be getting a letter with the quote to issue our cases.

not if we will approve the cases, but do not lose anything by trying!

This makes no sense.. How can he sigh an I-864 saying that he has the funds to ensure you will not be a public charge on one hand and get an expedite because he has no funds to send you on the other?

I don't believe it.. Prove it to me and I still won't believe it. -Ford Prefect

Your application was put on fast track and expedited coz the beneficiary had a job interview lined up in US?

If this is true then all the beneficiary would do same, now days its not much difficult to apply for jobs from different countries.

If what you are saying is true then all the applicants would be eligible for expedtied process.

You don't have to believe me if you don't want to; I'm just reporting what happened with us. You'll note that we were July filers (many of whom are still waiting for NOA2s) and that we got our NOA2 5 days after the expedite request.

I will say, however, that this isn't just any job that could be replaced with another. We demonstrated with evidence that this was a very specific, time sensitive opportunity, and that having to turn down this offer would also deny him the certification he needs to accept similar offers in the future. So maybe that's the difference.

My wife in the Philippines just lost her job in the Philippines and I was wondering if anyone had tried for expedite request based on such. I'm doubtful, but thought I would check with other VJers.

I did an expedite request for financial hardship b/c my fiance was transitioning between two jobs and went through about 3 apartments in a 4 month period (because of her hosts decision to move). It wasn't approved. They gave me a decision in like 2 hours!!!

Maybe if I enroll my fiance is a university here, she can get on the fast track too!

Mm...yeah...job ≠ university, on the job training/certification also ≠ university. Not trying to be a jerk here, just trying to say it works for particular circumstances.

University enrollments come every 4 - 6 months for new term. School leads to educational certification. Which then leads to job offers.

Yeah, but you're not getting a salary and benefits while in school, and there's no guarantee that you'll get a job after you finish your degree. That means the "financial loss/hardship" reason for expediting is pretty tangential and hard to prove with university enrollment vs. a job that is providing necessary certification.

But this is off the topic of the thread anyway. My original point in contributing is someone claimed an expedite for a job interview isn't possible, and I disagree.

Sorry, but if losing job by beneficiary would be a reason for USCIS to expedite approving of petition, I sure, many beneficiaries would just quit jobs temporary to not wait 5-8 months for NOA2 and to get it fast. I don't think it will expedite anything. If your wife hasn't money to survive, yo always can send her money. [Victor from Russia]

I completely agree. It's too easy for an intending immigrant to be "fired" and claim a financial hardship to expedite.

How does an unemployed person coming early into the US help? If there was a real job opportunity that would disappear then it would be an exception. Merely hoping to get a unknown job is too highly speculative since everyone of us probably know a US person who hasn't found a job in a very long time.
