I've tried in vain to find this subject so please accept my apologies if this has been ask.

We just received verbal aproval at interview for AOS and hopefully will receive 2 year card soon.

Problem is wife may have to return home before card arrives and reading about the 551 stamp has brought some confusion.

Is the 551 stamp required after interview process for returning to the states as in superceeding the 1 year EA/Ap card?

Thank you for your time

Hank

Yes, once the green card is approved, the EAD and AP are no longer valid. If she is going to leave before her green card arrives in the mail, you should make an infopass appointment and ask about getting the stamp in her passport so she has no hassles when she re-enters the US. If she can wait until she receives her green card in the mail before she travels, then all the better and no problems at all. It did not take long for my husband to receive his green card after our interview. It came in the mail 8 days later.

Ok Great! Thank you very much! We purchased the tickets months ago to save money but we have about a month before she leaves so I'll wait about three weeks before doing an info pass for the stamp.

You are welcome! Be sure not to wait too long to make an appointment though, just in case they do not have any appointments available right away. If you make an appt. and then the green card arrives in the mail, you can always cancel the infopass.
