Affidavit of Support - Question 11

I would like to know from those who have had their cases approved at the consulate/embassy lately, which answer you provided for Question 11 on the I-134: yes, no or N/A (k1 application - as stated in the example form).

I realize the example form suggests that one should answer N/A and many people advised to answer YES.

The thing is that my fiancée answered NO (Do not intend) and I´d like to know if any of you have had problems with that in the interview.

Thank you.

The guides show on lines below as "N/A ( K1 visa process for permanent residence )" This line pertains to a temporary visitor so dose not apply to the K1.

I also read this in the Law book from NOLO "Fiancé & Marriage Visas: A Couple's Guide to U.S. Immigration" so your fiancee did it correctly. Check NO and explain. Since there are no "specific" contributions of support.

This is what I have read in the book and how I too filled the form out.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

YuAndDan, I belive the OP was looking for feedback from those who have alrady had their interviews and have gotten the visa.

rlt: My fiance answered N/A.

If you guys have checked NO, have you have problems or it has it worked out okay?

I only offer advice - not even legal. Just the plain and simple kind.

rlt,

A VFAQ. Yet I've never read a post about someone having a problem with how they answered this question. My sense is that it's a non-issue - much ado about nothing.

rlt,

But, you may be the first! Even a muskrat could figure out that after providing all that financial information on a form titled 'Affidavit of Support', stating that one is not going to provide any support just might be counter-productive if a consular officer were to treat that question seriously for some reason.

It sounds strange to me too.

But I think the question is about specific contributions. It doesn´t say the petitioner won´t provide any support.

Otherwise, what would be the point of filing out a support form and provide supporting evidences?

I answered 'no' and didn't have any problems. As I told rlt offline that for a couple starting their life together, it could be assumed from that answer that finances would be shared. I wouldn't expect to give David an 'allowance' when he gets here. What's mine is his... no specific contribution required.

This form is used for other situations besides just the I-129F. I would think that it might apply if someone were sponsoring someone's sister, or father-in-law... something like that... like a pledge to help until they get on their feet. I really don't see a problem with answering 'no' in this case, but that's just MHO. People have to complete the form in the way that's most representative of their own situation.

Jen

8-30-05 Met David at a restaurant in Germany

3-28-06 David 'officially' proposed

4-26-06 I-129F mailed

9-25-06 Interview: APPROVED!

10-16-06 Flt to US, POE Detroit

11-5-06 Married

7-2-07 Green card received

9-12-08 Filed for divorce

12-5-08 Court hearing - divorce final

A great marriage is not when the "perfect couple" comes together.

It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.

Hi rlt,

You will not have a problem; I put “no” down also. Because you will be paying all expense as they are incurred. You will not be giving her a contribution.

Good luck,
