Hi All,

Its been a crazy and hectic last 2 weeks. But all worth it!!! I flew to HKG to get my love, spent a week in the Rockies (UT) and got married :)Now the next steps and I have a few questions.....

1)Is there a link on here on what exactly is needed for AOS? Do we need the actual marriage license for this? I only have the marriage certificate thus far. Maybe another 2 weeks before we get the marriage license in the mail.

2)When can I get her a SS Card/SS number? What is needed?

3)I assume we cant do her name change yet. (or can we?) We need the marriage license first, correct?

4)We are planning to go back to China the end of March for a Chinese wedding.I dont think we will have her green card by this time. What is needed for Lili to leave the States for the China wedding and get back into the states after?

5)Finally, we currently live in Texas. However, we are moving to Utah in March. How will this effect AOS (any)?

Thanks,

Matt and Lili

1. yup. Click on the word 'guides' up at the top blue bar thingie - find the one for AOS

2. approx 2 weeks + 1 day past her POE date, go to the SSA office, apply in person. Apply in VISA name. Do not worry about 'married name' for the moment. Oh wait - there's also a GUIDE for that, in the GUIDES section. BTW, you cannot do it. SHE must do it, as it's HER number.

3. you can do whatever you want at the courthouse for a LEGAL NAME CHANGE.

4. Apply for Advanced Parole WITH the Adjustment of status casefile. It's free. Also apply for EAD WITH the adjustment of status casefile. It's free, also.

5. The greencard is mailed via postal mail. Is not way to track it, is no way to have it forwarded by USPS - it's simply not done, as there's wording on the outside of the envelope, to the effect of 'Postmaster - DO NOT FORWARD'. Easiest thing to do on this? Prepay for a years worth of time on a PO BOX, have all correspondence address on the AOS packet sent to the PO BOX. Also, if you have a local interview, it will be in Texas, not Utah.

Address changes are problematic, always. There's some major breakdown in the data center in London, KY, where these are supposed to occur - the data, once there, is never promulgated up and outwards to any other USCIS office that would have or touch yer casefile.

Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

1) Use the guides at the top of the page here, the AOS guide, you need the marriage certificate, the license is permission to marry only.

2) Take the certificate and passport to get the SSN in her married name when you get it.

3) The start of the name change can start with the SSN, once you get the SSN you should be able to get a state ID in married name.

4)You will need permission to leave, AP, advance parole. T am not aware of any other way.

5) you need to do a change of address, the guides will show you how, I personally would move before i start the AOS, not in the middle of it.

I am sure others will give more detailed info, We are in Texas also so I know 1, 2, and 3 are easilly done, good luck.

We did an Apostille for use in China if necessary.

Thanks!!!

I clicked on the link and printed out the following forms:

I-485 AOS

I-864 Affidavit of Support

G-325A Biographic Info

I-765 Employment Authorization

I-131 Application for Travel document

G-1145 E-Notification

1) Is this all we need for AOS? I looked at everything briefly and dont see a cost? What is the cost associated with AOS? I assume I need to send in another check.......

2) I-864 and G-325A we already filled and sent in. Do we need to do this again for this step?

3) I-765 Do we need to fill this out? My wife will not be working for a while (maybe 5 years from now)

4) I-131 this is needed for travel out of the States (before we get green card), correct?

Thanks,

Matt and Lili
