I have recently submitted the physical documents to NVC the civil documents along with the DS-230. This morning, I received a letter from them indicating that I have to submit once again the form because they have found some gaps in the place where I have resided since aging 16 (my bad). For your information, I have worked in Jordan from 2004 to 2008, so this was indicated in the form.

They have included the below statement in the last part:

Jordan: Available to resident Jordanian citizens and foreigners. The General Intelligence Directorate (GID) is responsible for issuing good conduct certificates. They are considered tobe reliable, but cover primarily security-related records, i.e. not necessarily criminal information. These certificates must be applied for in person at the local GID office, and are valid for one year. It takes up to two weeks to obtain the certificate from the GID. Foreigners

must reside continuously in Jordan for six months before the GID will issue a certificate. There are no procedures to obtain these certificates through Jordanian embassies in foreign.

Pls. enlighten me. It says that there are no procedures to obtain these certificates through embassies of Jordan in foreign countries, so I guess this is ignored? I am currently in the Philippines.

Thanks in advance for your prompt reply.

You will need the NBI for Philippines. The requirements for Jordan do seem a little ambiguous. They don't specifically state that they are unavailable if you no longer live there but they don't give you a process to follow if you are out of the country. I would call NVC and see what they say. I would also try and get a hold of GID in Jordan to see if they have a process for those no longer in the country (tell them traveling to Jordan is not an option). You can also use the search function in the top right corner of this page to see what other people in your situation have done. Try "jordan police certificate" or something along those lines.

Good luck.

Thanks Beejay for your input. Do I have to send them a photocopy of the NBI or the original one?

I already mailed NVC regarding the police certificate from Jordan, this worries me now. I hope they would omit this one.

Did you hear anything back from NVC? I believe the letter states that they want originals but I would double check and follow their directions. I would then either request 2 certs if possible or make a copy to take with you to your interview. Not sure which is preferred.

I have both sent an email to NVC and the US Embassy here in Manila...

Today, I received separate responses. NVC told me to wait for a couple of days to review the documents I sent them. Meanwhile, the US Embassy Manila replies as below:

"This is in reply to your December 30, 2011 inquiry regarding your visa concerns.

Immigrant visa applicants are required to present a police certificate from any place or places of residence for more than one year since attaining the age of 16. There is no waiver for this requirement.

As you are aware, according to the catalogue of available documents prepared by the State Department, a police certificate from Jordan is obtainable.

Please be aware, however, that documentation required to process a visa application to conclusion may vary from case to case. In most cases, only after the applicant's visa interview can the adjudicating consular officer determine if additional documentation is necessary to assist with the adjudication.

We hope this information is helpful to you."

Now, I am even more confused what I am going to do.. (sigh)....

Meanwhile, I am going to send the corrected DS-230 to NVC through courier. I am hoping that this Jordan Police Certificate will be ignored.

Anyone who has experience regarding this matter, your views will be much appreciated.

Your response from the embassy basically states they aren't going to 'ignore' the requirement. I don't imagine NVC's response is going to be much different. Have you tried contacting the Jordan embassy in Manila [(+63) 2 543-4181] to ask how to proceed? At the very least if Jordan will not issue the police clearance you need a document from some Jordanian authority stating this since the embassy told you they will require this document.

They simply refer to the information you can see in the reciprocity by country page of the dos. If this information is wrong, you'll have to "prove" it by getting an official document from Jordanian authorities that they cannot issue a police certificate.

I know what kind of burden it is, I lived abroad (in Turkey), and now I'm having big difficulties getting the pc for the IV package. It might slow us down several months if things don't turn out well :(
