Why are Americans spending a $1,000 a month to sit in traffic?

The problem is that in a city where everyone has a car, everyone has to park. Not only does it become expensive, it's a hassle to find at any price.

I not even have a problem finding a parking spot when going to the downtown Starbucks on Main Street, something I do every day. At home I have a 3-car garage and a driveway long enough for 3 cars (although only my wife's MINI is parked there), and across my home is a community garden next to a church with about 25 empty parking spots except Sunday mornings. So I have usually 3 more cars parked in my street: my daughter's car, one of my pickups, and my daily ride. The other cars I have in a warehouse near work, so I can choose which one I want to take home every day.

Again, living at the right place is priceless. That means perfect weather, no crime (less than 1 homicide per year on average), plenty of space, the beach nearby, nice homes, and plenty of parking spaces. Damn, I truly live in paradise.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . You should park your cars at various locations throughout the city. And change cars as you go about your day.

I see plenty of men/women using their knees to drive while shaving, putting on makeup, texting, talking, watching something on the "GPS (aka DVD Player), reading the sports section, eating breakfast/lunch/dinner, etc.. :lol:

Sure, it's done. But it's dangerous and illegal in many cases. And even at it's best it isn't relaxing. And time on a bus where you can focus is much more productive than trying to do something while driving.

You don't live in a big city, I am guessing. Obviously it's not a problem everywhere.

Yes, it is dangerous! I got rearended by someone who was driving around eating a bucket of KFC while driving. I'm entirely serious. :wacko: Luckily, there was minor damage and I was fine, but I was pregnant at the time and can you imagine if it had been worse?
