My oath letter finally arrived! Someone please update my timeline. It's on June 27th!

Oh and belated congratulations to you Norah! I actually attended the May 24th 8am ceremony...but as a guest lol my mom took her oath that day. The thing about this is (as I mentioned a couple of weeks ago) My mom and I had our interview on the same day (April 25th); she was scheduled for the May 24th oath ceremony, but I wasn't. I guess one of the good things I can take away from this is I get to experience the oath ceremony twice--first time as a guest, second time as an oath-taker!

Anyway, I'm so happy right now (thank you, Lord!) I can't wait for the 27th!

Oath ceremony complete! It was actually quite a nice *little* ceremony. I'd say there were over 500 new citizens but it still felt rather intimate. My husband was seated on an aisle so it was very easy to talk with him or walk around while we waited for the proceedings to start. During the ceremony the judge went through and announced each country and had each new citizen from that country stand up. (Reading everyone else's experiences it sounds like that is a pretty standard procedure for all the ceremonies). There were 78 countries represented and about 10 other Filipinos. The largest number were from Somalia with 110. The judge gave a nice speech and talked about how even though the new citizens had just sworn allegiance to their new government it did not mean to give up ties to your home country. He said it was important to keep those connections alive as much as possible and to pass on language, music, dance, food etc. to your children and to your community. He said that is what has made this country what it is. He then emphasized the keeping and sharing of food traditions It was a really nice moment.

I know there are still some December filers that are still waiting for their oath ceremonies so good luck and I hope they go as smoothly and as nice as ours did.

Do you feel any different now that you are a citizen. I was so conditioned to logging on to VJ, i have to stop checking in.

No, I'm planning to send my passport application next week, Have you gotten yours yet.

I'm planning to go to the SSA office some time, been too busy at Work.

If I'm still reading?! Of course I am. I like watching all the good news for folks continue to come in!

Yes, we got the passport--we expedited for what was then an upcoming trip (actually it's today!). The passport arrived quickly and the naturalization certificate a few days later. We're still waiting on the passport card. We opted to pay the extra $ to always have proof of citizenship in the wallet. Unfortunately the passport card has not arrived and it's been well over a week since we received the passport.

We've not gone to SSA yet...I looked at the form online but haven't moved much beyond that. What's been the experience with this step?

And if it's been explained somewhere in a different thread forgive me for repeating the question, but why is it even necessary to make this change with the SSA? We're going to do it, just to have every box checked off, but I'm not clear on what difference it makes, if any at all.

It was a hard thing giving it up a few hours after getting it I think updating status with SSA means that when an employer looks up an SSN they can see you are a citizen. I would also suspect that if SSA doesn't know you were a citizen then they wouldn't know you qualify for SS when the time comes. At least now when you pay into the system you in theory will have something to show for it.

Yes the passport came with a little paper that said to expect the certificate in a different mailing and if you ordered the passport card to likely expect that in a third mailing.

Okay, My interview was today! Just got back from there. arrived there like 5 minutes before my appointment.

The questions were super easy!.. went right to the point, didn't #### chat with me or anything.

5. what did the declaration of independence do?

6. cant remember...

then read something about Abraham Lincoln and wrote thanksgiving is in November.

she asked for some utility bills and banks accounts letters. I gave her Con Ed, the Car insurance and the bank accounts letters. that was all.

She said: Im Approving you, you will receive the letter in the mail and gave me a letter that says Im Approve.
