Agree with Zen Den. You can call SSA 800 number to check the status of her application.

AOS: April 2011 - June 2011

ROC: April 2013 - August 2013

Well as suggested I called the 800 number what a waste of time they tell me to call homeland security..ok so I call local office and at least they take our ref # and said they're waiting on HSA after 8 weeks? and they won't talk to me just to her and I'm hoping nothing gets lost in translation.

Well we're getting married black friday that should be a hard date to forget what do ya think guys?

TY for the help.

Each time an immigrant applies for a SS card, SSA checks with DHS first before they issue a card. If SSA is waiting for verification from DHS then there in nothing they can do until DHS confirms Cherry's immigration status. I waited for mine for over two months and every time I called they told me the same thing (they were waiting for verification from DHS).

Bob...We are K-1ers also. Chinook applied for a Social Security number about a week after she arrived in the U.S. Her SS card arrived in our mail box about a week later.

Two months seems unreasonable. How long could it take for the SSA to verify Cherry's status with the DHS? I thought the DHS entered a K-1er's status into their database shortly after arrival in the U.S. I believe that the SSA has access to that database. Isn't it called the SAVE system? Hmmm...

Yeah, two months is a lot but it does take that long sometimes. I applied for a new SS card after I received my GC (to remove the restriction on it and change my last name to married). You would think it would only take a week or so because I already had a SSN and GC and all they had to do was verify that I really was a permanent resident. By then I had been in the system for over 7 months and yet it took them 2 months to verify my status and issue a new SScard.

Well we got a letter from ss office today and it says her ss card will be here in two weeks so one more thing out of the way!!

Thanks for the help all.
