lost greencard - how to travel soon?

greetings!

i was searching around here cuz i lost my husband's 2 yr conditional green card. he arrived feb 2011. we do have a copy of the green card and also a police report. (my wallet was stolen. everything was in it, incl. hubby's GC. we actually just had to xeroxed earlier that day for his job) anyway, I was informed to just wait to do the ROC. he wont be eligible to file until November 2012. One year from now. we might need to travel outside the US early next month. should we file for the I-90? i hear it can take up to 6 months. if i file now we wont get the GC until May2012. or should we just wait to do the ROC. my BIGGEST question, if we do an info pass and request for the i-551 stamp, will they do it WITHOUT the I-90? hope ya'll can help :/

You should start your own thread if you want to get more responses instead of reviving someone else's old thread.

my thoughts to you is to file a police report and inform USCIS that the GC was stolen. It might come back later to haunt you if the person who stole your wallet misuses your husbands' GC.

1) The Green Card doesn't belong in the wallet. Imagine it's a diamond worth $1 million, and you are only allowed to sell it at RoC time.

2) For RoC you need a copy of the front and the back of his GC. If you don't have both, you will need to pay the $450 for the I-90.

3) You will not receive an I-551 stamp without the receipt for the I-90. They want your money.

If you were in the 90 days period to file ROC, I'd say don't go for I-90. Since this is not the situation, you have to file I-90.

Thanks for your reply. And yes I know the GC doesn't belong in the wallet. His new employer at that time needed to see it earlier that day to make a copy of it. We went to the library after and that's where my wallet was stolen.
