Based on many feedback, there may be somewhat help in some cases, but not all the time. Alot of people reported that they involved the congressman in some serious situation but there was no single help at all.

If your case is strong enough, then K1 visa would be granted.

I have seen a few posts on here about contacting a congressman about the K-1 petition. What are some reasons for doing this? Do congressman get involved in visa petitions and does it help?

Congresspersons can make official inquiries into your case should it go beyond normal processing times (as posted by USCIS). The inquiry is just that. The congressperson asks USCIS as to the status of your case and receives a response. The typical USCIS response is that "they're working on it".

Being that you just filed 1 week ago, you still have quite a bit of time left to receive the NOA-2. Use this time to study the next steps of the process.

I contacted my Congressman via fax on Tuesday, the 15th, because my application was over 6 months at the VSC. Suprisingly, just 3 days later, they called to inform me that their inquiry was made and that my application was approved (NOA2) on Wednesday the 16th. I am not sure whether their inquiry actually caused the approval, but I was really grateful to know they were working on my behalf and so quickly! And even though my receipt number does not work (so I cannot get website or email updates), I feel pretty confident that the approval is on its way in the mail (after all, would they lie to a Congressman?). Anyway, I say go ahead and make the contact with the Congressman after you are past normal processing times. It can't hurt. And, I'd like to take this opportunity to give a shout out to Congressman Altmire, from Pennsylvania, and his staff. They sure are helpful.
