Hey!

We've got our NOA2 and our case has been sent from the NVC to the London embassy. My fiance received information in the mail about paperwork and interviews about a week and a half ago, but he's still waiting to hear back about his police certificate. He doesn't have a record, but they're taking kind of awhile and when he called to ask they basically said, "It's done when it's done."

At this point, I'm not sure what to expect scheduling-wise. I last saw him in August and I really want him to come visit for Christmas and New Years (I'm thinking December 20 to January 10, given current airfares), and the only thing stopping us from booking a ticket is scheduling. I don't want his trip over here to conflict with stuff he's gotta do back in England, and I especially don't want us to buy a ticket only for the government to approve his K-1 and allow him to move here a month or so later.

Anyone have any advice on the issue? Thanks. :)

I would say go for it!!!

When the papers get sent to the embassy maybe have him attach a letter asking for an interview after January 10 because he'll be out the country. I'm sure they'll do that as they appear to be slammed at the moment. I think interviews at the moment are being scheduled for december, (I'm not going through that stage so someone who is feel free to correct me) so chances are you won't get an interview till late January now anyway.

Has he done his medical yet?

Only thing is, now that you're at the embassy stage things do move fairly quick, so it could be the case that he comes to see you over christmas and then he'd be back a month or two later. If finances aren't a huge issue then go for it, spending christmas and new year the one you love is so special!!!

Also if he does come and visit, have him bring all the proof that he WILL return for his interview and not just overstay - very important!!!!!!!

the last i heard it was taking about 2 1/2 month from NVC to interview in London. of course that could probably be stretched out a bit by not sending the forms back straight away... plus there will be the Christmas holidays to count in too so i would roughly estimate an interview date around the beginning of February... of course i could be completely wrong too lol

Oh wow, that's pretty cool! I mean of course I want the visa to be approved ASAP, but I also really want him here for Christmas. Ahhhh thanks for the help. :)

Also no, he hasn't done his medical yet. We were waiting on the police certificate, and shouldn't the medical be done around the same time as the interview? If not, we'll try to get one scheduled soon.

the medical can be scheduled as soon as London have logged the case in to there system which they have obviously done now... i also believe that he can do the medical and then send them a copy of the police certificate and the medical people will keep hold of the medical results until they receive it... but you might wanna check that when you call to schedule it :)

Once you've got an LND number you can schedule a medical. The certificate isn't required for the medical, (I didn't have mine on time so I just e-mailed them a copy)

If you're not planning on him arriving till 20th December I'm sure the police certificate will arrive by them. I would have him schedule the medical, get that out the way, maybe go for an appointment early/mid december.

Also to speed things up, have him check with his doctor that him immunizations are upto date - mine where apart from I needed a second MMR booster, I've heard a lot of people have needed a second one because when I was a baby (I'm 22 now) babies only had one round but now they get two, so if he can get it done at his doctors that will save time and money aswel.

I would basically have him ready so that he could literally get off the plane and do the interview if necessary. meaning medical done, papers to the embassy and papers ready that he will need for the interview.

I really don't think it will be a problem at all. Again though I can't stress enough about proving he will be returning.

I don't think he needs to tell the immigration he has a up and coming interview, he can just say 'i'm visiting my fiance', BUT if he is questioned more he must be honest and show proof such as NOA 2, embassy letters, job, rental agreement return ticket etc.

I am currently out in the states with my fiance (I am the U.K beneficiary). We have received our NOA2 and have started packet 3 etc. I was nervous about coming out here and being asked all manner of question with the possibility of being denied, but I got on just fine. I took proof of address, bank accounts and anything else I could think of that highlighted I have ties to the U.K and intend to return. We booked tickets for just under 90 days stay too. I am sure you will be fine. I think it's always reassuring to see someone in the same position with a positive experience. Good luck!

OP, you wouldn't have to sweat any of this stuff if you visited him instead...

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I'm aware of that, but I have a job and he doesn't currently have a job, so it makes more sense for him to visit. I stayed in the UK for the summer and left in August, and my family really wants to see my fiance too.

Trust me, I'm not stupid enough to have not thought of that, but it's not really ideal.

I would go ahead and get him to book a trip over. He should arrange to have the medical before Christmas. He should have received his police certificate before he visits you, so he will be able to send off the next set of forms before he visits. He can note on there that he won't be available to interview until after January 10th. It's unlikely he'd get an interview before then anyway, but who knows maybe he will receive his police certificate tomorrow and be able to send off everything. I was in the US when I got notice that my interview was January 5th...obviously that's kind of an impossible time to fly back so I had to rearrange the interview  Who knows, maybe he'll be able to interview as soon as he returns to the UK. Unlikely, but possible :-)

Hey there,

I am going through the same process as your fiancee as in, I am british, engaged to an american, dealing with the London Embassy etc. There wont be any problems for him to come visit but make sure he has evidence on him that he intends to return to the UK. I had my employer write a letter for me (I know you said he isnt working atm, im just giving an example) and I had my parents write a letter as I rent from them etc.

The police certificate should only take 10 days. I sent in the paperwork and got it back very quickly. The medicals only take a few days at most to schedule but there are exceptions to this of course. It may be a busy week that he is trying to get his appointment. It took me a week to get mine but that was down to the fact that I was working and travelling down from Scotland.

I hope that helps :)
