As a Polish American, we've always tried to find a really good Paczki, usually from a Polish bakery, but we celebrate on Fat Tuesday...

Hubster has always celebrated it as Pancake Day, so I'll have a Paczki for myself and see if I can't make some Brit-stylee pancakes for him. :P

Due to French influence, paczki are eaten on Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday) rather than on Fat Thursday.
