Hello Forum:

Along with the interview letter there were white papers of checklist. One of the items on the checklist ask to bring certified copies of the birth certificate of children born in the US.

My child is over one year now. Is it really a must requirement?

Any body knows how much time department of health (NYC Manhattan) office takes to do it if I go in person? they are not picking up the phone and I intend to go tomorrow.

Thanksss :) :)

If it says "bring certified copies of the birth certificate of children born in the US" then take them with you to the interview. You do not want to risk that your approval gets delayed.

Surely you have a certified birth certificate for your child, with the mailed in application, just send a copy of it. At the interview, bring in all of your original documentation and make damn sure you walk out with ALL of it.

Was however paranoid about copying our marriage certificate, said there is a $10,000 fine for making copies of it, all in all for the USCIS and dealing with my wife's home country, needed eight copies of it. Was 8 bucks for the first copy, 5 bucks for each additional one, all were original certified copies. could tell one from the other.

Further paranoia was in making copies of your citizenship certificate, was a red stamp on my wifes' certificate, making copies or even a photo of it is unlawful and punishable. But yet was told to make copies of it at her oath ceremony. Need a copy of your certificate for the USCIS in case you lost yours.

But I see on my stepdaughters recent certificate, they removed that warning stamp. Was again told to make copies of it.

My eldest daughter was born in Brooklyn and it was really easy to get a copy of her birth certificate. Depending on how soon you need it, you can click here NYC Dept. of Health and order it online.

Make sure you bring one with you if they asked for it!

For the three year, showing proof of a child born from your marriage is excellent proof of its validity.

We couldn't do that, so showed joint ownership of a puppy, but feel that was just as good if not better.

Well, get a copy and bring it, what's the big deal? You can order it online and last time I checked it was $10 and about a week (should be about the same for any office).

Yes, you must bring it.

Need that birth certificate to get an SS number for that kid, not sure about your state, but in ours, also need that birth certificate to enroll your kid in school. Like I said, only need to send a copy of it, like from a scanner or a copying machine with your application and bring in the original if your IO wants to see it. I only had one, needed that again when I was 16 to get my first drivers' license, and again when I was drafted. Haven't needed since then until I got involved with the USCIS and again for a US passport.

But since I heard rumors that the DOS loses stuff, contacted my state to get duplicates, at five bucks each, got three of them. Sure enough, they lost it that led to panic when sending my wife's citizen certificate in, but that came back. Didn't need one until I met this woman, after we talked for a year, just had to meet her, we got married and sure needed those for the USCIS.

Ha, said we showed joint ownership of a puppy, actually wanted a German German Shepherd dog from Germany. This was after our AOS, the I-693 for him was the breeder showing customs the pup had his shots. Could by a one way ticket to my nearest local airport, was around 150 bucks as I recall. Then when he came here, he was automatically a US citizen, no fooling around with the USCIS on him.

Dogs have it much better than humans.
