I was wondering why it takes the Embassy four weeks after receiving your forms before being able to furnish you with an interview. I asked them and they said its to carry out background checks...this seemed fair enough and prudent. Once i'd gotten off that expensive phonecall though I thought, well you do your own police check and the financial background only counts from the petitioner so what on Earth could take four weeks? I know I'm just being impatient but I'm genuinely confused at what the four weeks is for!!?!! Thanks in advance to anyone who hads any ideas...I was hoping for an interview before Christmas but they're saying whilst this May happen....it just isn't likely :)

I don't know all the details to the scheduling process but I did learn from the DOS, there are a certain number of appointment slots for each type of visa issued every month. In addition to the background check...other memebers might be able to offer other details and/or perspective.

I think London probably gets hit with a lot of visas - they have to schedule K1's as well as all others. My guess is it's just a very busy embassy.

Now, that being said, I TOTALLY agree with you. It is completely frustrating to know your paperwork is there, wait four weeks, then have the interview date scheduled out another 3-4.

London issued 92,000 visas in 2010. That's like 1750+ a week, not counting the ones that they processed that weren't issued or were denied.
