Hello everybody,

I have a few questions concerning form N-400. I am applying for naturalization based on marriage, after 2 years and 90 days after becoming a permanent resident.

Part 6A refers to every place you lived during the past 5 years. If I became a resident less than 3 years ago, should I fill in my address for the past 3 years since I became a resident, or should I go back 5 years? I wasn't even in the U.S. 5 years ago. Should I list the address I used to live at in my home country before I came here? What should I do?

Another question refers to Part 7 of the form. I am required to list all the trips I took outside of the U.S., and the number of days. I haven't traveled abroad at all since I became a resident; should I say 0 then? And where I am supposed to list the countries and the dates, should I write N/A, or just leave it blank?

The same question applies for Part 8, which refers to my previous marriages. If I've never been married before, should I say N/A or leave it blank? And also the question about children, I don't have any, so should I fill in with N/A, or leave it blank?

Same question actually for every part of the form that doesn't pertain to my situation. Maybe I'm overreacting, but I don't want USCIS to find reasons to delay my case, like the form not being filled in the right way, or God knows what else :)

Thank you in advance for responding!

Hi,

I just crossed out the "5" and wrote in 3 years.

Don't put n/a- put 0 or "none".

BTW, it's 3 years minus 90 days that you can apply, not 2 years plus 90 days.

Think you mean two years and 275 days, 276 days if a leap year. Anything that doesn't apply to you should get an "N/A". For my stepdaughter, unmarried, female, and the five year, wore out the control "V" on my computer keyboard with "N/A's".

No problem with her for the number of days she was out of the country in the past five years, she was here for those five years. Her number in that box was the total number of days she was out of the country. Wife was out of the country for 409 days on the three year. That is what they asked for, that is what they got.

Never legal to change the questions on any governmental form, although I have yet to hear an issue being made from it, but you may be the first. Besides, its not 3 years, if applying at the earliest possible date, two years and 275 days or 276 days if a leap year. You start counting back from the signed date on your application.
