As some of you may already know, the MagicJack Plus was recently released. The difference between the old MJ and the new one is the fact that the MJ+ doesn't need to be plugged in to the computer. It comes with an adapter that allows you to hook it up directly to your router and use it as a regular line. I ordered one because I was very eager to test it out. We decided that if it worked fine we would just cancel our land line which costs us about $35 a month, while the new MJ+ costs $29.95 a year.

I've found a couple problems in the week and a half of using the MJ+, such as a weird "beeping" noise on the other end, wrong date & time on the calls, and most recently, it seems our number was showing under a different name on the caller ID (still need to verify this though). Also, if we want to port our land line number, MJ charges a one time fee of $20, but also a $9.95 yearly fee that is added to the regular $29.95.

On the other hand, I just found out about NetTalk Duo and have read pretty good reviews about them. They're pretty much the same as MJ+ and a customer stated that there is no fee to port your number. I was just wondering if anybody here has given these 2 products a try. I surely would love to start saving some money.

That would be $60 a year and no 911 option. Both MJ and NetTalk have a 911, which is extremely important if you're looking to replace your home line. Thanks for pointing it out though because I had never heard of it.
