My Husband will be needing his medical examination now that we received an e-mail indicating that our interview date should be expected. Now, he lives in Newfoundland which is preeeeetty much... an island. I called the NVC asking whether he can find a doctor in his area that would be able to do these procedures and they could not help me and directed me to the Interview Preparation PDF. These doctors are in Montreal.

Now, is he able to wait till after the interview to enter the States, can he possibly find a doctor closer to him that may be certified, etc.

This is quite annoying that he'll be needing to fly all the way out to Montreal twice to stay there for a day, paying for taxis.

Please help. =(

Not sure about Montreal but most consulates have medical centers they have authorized for the exam and they can generally turn the results around in one day. Check the consulate website to see what medical facilities they have authorized and then you can see which ones have same day service so to speak.

You HAVE to get the medical done BEFORE the interview, otherwise you'll be put into AP until they get the medical results and you would have just wasted time and money. So, you have four choices of panel physicians in Canada which Inky listed (2 in Montreal, 1 in Toronto, and 1 in Vancouver). Since Montreal is the closest for your husband, he should go there.

Now, you have two options for the medical. Either fly to Montreal, get the medical done, return back to Nfld, and then fly back for the interview. OR, fly to Montreal and stay there for a week. Get the medical done the first day possible. I went to Medisys and they have the results usually done within 3 days. So he can get it done a few days before the interview, then pick up the results either the day before or the morning of. This way, he'd only have to fly once. And no need for taxis, just use public transportation or even walk! Medisys is literally a 5 minute walk from the consulate. I visited the consulate after I had my medical at Medisys and it was only a few blocks over. And there's plenty of cheap hotels all around. No need for taxis at all. Just use public transport to get from the airport to the hotel.

Those are the only two options. You CANNOT get a doctor in Nfld to do the medical as there are NO panel physicians there. Sorry, but that's the way it is.

Thank you, that is very helpful. I figured it would end up that way. The airport seems awfully far away from all that, but then again... it's google maps.

I see a good amount of hotels right by there and definitely see how close together these two buildings are. It'll all be up to him in the end I suppose! I wish I could easily do it for him.

The above link is a Montreal Hotel thread. I'm not sure how far downtown is from the airport at all but there should be shuttles I am thinking.

When it's time for my interview we were thinking that we will meet in Montreal and make a it mini-vacation in between the appointments (medical and visa). I hear Montreal can be a nice place to visit. :)

There is a shuttle from the airport to downtown. It was $7. in April when I went. If you go back within 24 hours it is free so keep your ticket. Also the machine only takes coin so make sure you have enough twoonies and loonies to cover it. There are many hotels within walking distance of the medical in Montreal it's quite central and only a few blocks from the consulate if he decides to do it all in one trip.

I get that it is frustrating, being limited on where you can have your medical done. I lived in Northwestern Ontario and I knew far enough that I made sure to collect enough airmiles to go to Toronto stay the night, have them fedex my medical results, fly to Montreal stay one night. I used the airport express in Montreal and Toronto, really easy to naviagate! I used Expedia for my room, it was reasonable. I walked my little feet off to see Old Montreal...it is beautiful! All in all it turned out less expensive for me to do it this way rather than staying in Montreal for a week. In hindsight I would have put my address at my daughter's in BC and stayed with her during the week of medical/interview! Oh well, it all worked out in the end,I am happily married, living in MN! Good luck to you!
