Well the interview went really good and the officer sais "Everything looks pretty good here". Except, they asked for my original divorce decree (I submitted copies in the application only). The officer said her visa is pending until my decree it submitted. Another DHL package out today, there on Monday/Tuesday and back to the embassy by next Friday. It really only adds a week to the process, but it is a bit of a dissapointment

Oh well, I guess she will be here soon. Just now quite as soon.

Thanks for the support,

Jim

Congratulations!!! one more week and it's finally over.

by the way, what other ORIGINAL doc/s did the CO asked for? Of course, ALL FORMS must be originals (not photocopied, not faxed). And since they asked for orig divorce decree, does that mean that they will keep it? Or they only wanted to see it? Thanks a lot!

All original divorce decrees are kept at the county courthouse. What we receive are copies with court stamp, signature, or a raised seal to validate it. It becomes our original. I had copies of those made and sent to her and they were sufficient for her interview..

I personally think sending the beneficiary whatever "original" you have is a wise move to avoid further delay. Good Luck to us!

As someone has said, all I got was a copy with an official seal embossed on it. It is marked "Official Certified Copy" -- still a copy  I wrote a letter stating that this was the original document given to me by the court and used to make the copies for the application. I hope this works because that IS the original.

I've heard of requiring the original certified copy, not a photocopy of such before. I pretty much had every original document sent to her to insure no delays. Turns out they didn't ask for any of them and she flew right through the interview. CFO seems to be even worse demanding original documents and making them return to.

Yes, I agree with that! The document that we can get from a courthouse is called "Certified Copy" and it should be accepted by consulates!

Send the raised seal, stamped and signed "Certified" copy you get from the court, to include all pages of that doc.

I don't understand how this question comes up so often....

As another poster stated there is only 1 ORIGINAL of any legal document, this includes Divorce Decrees, Birth Certificates etc. The Court Clerk will never release that document to you.

When USCIS (or anyone else) says they want an original not copy what they are asking for is a copy provided by the Court Clerk's office that has been endorsed as original by them. This is usually with an embossed seal but can be an ink stamped seal.

At some point in the process you will be asked for an "original" of almost every required document so don't waste time, just get the "originals" and be prepared when they ask for them.
