Good afternoon all,I was born in Thailand 31 years ago in a refugee camp, back then they didn't give birth certificates.

My family was sponsored by a church group in Canada, And three years later recieved Citizenship. My question is Could I use my Canadian Citizenship card along with my passport in replacement of a birth certificate?

I think I read somewhere that I could.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Thank you,

Always be grateful, thankful and appreciate what you have.

No, that won't work. Recently a I saw a case where person adopted abroad at birth got an RFE for the birth certificate in the original country.

Here is some info on getting the required documents from Thailand. http://travel.state.gov/visa/fees/fees_5455.html?cid=9660#docs

Good luck.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

Thank you, I tried Calling Royal Thai Embassy in Vancouver and they said that Thai Gov didn't issue BC for people born in Ref Camps!

I'm now reading forums to find answers and already tried to contact USCIS to ask questions...

:(

Found this thread: VJ thread

I have the same problem...I was born in a thailand refugee camp in the 1981 and no birth certificate was issued. I wrote to the united nations as they were running the camp and they issued me a letter confirming my birth details...it's the best i can come up with considering the thai government will not issue birth certificate to refugees. I'm hoping this will be sufficient for my visa application.

Your best bet is to contact the local office of your birth in vietnam and get them to issue you a new birth certificate or if that is not obtainable they need to write an official letter confirming your birth and stating why your birth certificate is unobtainable. As secondary evidence you need a letter from your parents preferably your mother also confirming your birth details. I hope this information was helpful....I understand what you're going through

A person on there got their US visa based on a letter from UNHCR detailing their birth in a thai refugee camp.

I hope this helped and I wish you all the best.
