Hi,

I have mailed my IV packet documents (IR-5 application) to NVC and it was delivered last Monday (9/12/2011). So what is next and how long does the process take from here? I know NVC is going to review the documents and check to make sure the documents in order. From there, the docs will be sent to the embassy and then the embassy will schedule the interview? Any idea if the embassy calls the beneficiary or mails something to their address? How is the contact initiated? Is there anywhere to track the journey after the documents are sent to NVC?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

If you've sent both the AOS and IV packages, then all you can do is wait for the case complete. It should be either this week or next, as long as everything was accepted.

After the case is completed, then your case is put into a queue for an interview date to be scheduled. The time for this varies by country, depending how busy the consulate/embassy is. Once NVC schedules an interview date (be it either a few days later or a few weeks after the case complete), NVC will email both the petitioner and beneficiary of the interview date.

A day or two later, the case will be shipped abroad. If you have the date the case was shipped (either from the operator or the AVR), then you can try tracking it on DHL (although be warned this isn't a full-proof system and you won't know 100% sure if that's your case, but it's fun and keeps you busy). You can read the thread on how to do that here: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/194465-how-to-track-your-case-from-nvc-to-embassy/ And please don't just read the first post, read the entire thing as the steps have changed slightly (mostly just the reference format).

Good luck!

Thank you Saylin. You are so helpful! You are just awesome! :)

So is there a way to know if everything was accepted at NVC..before they contact me? My AOS had already been accepted earlier. I had submitted it separately. So I just had to mail them the IV documents, birth/marriage cerificates, etc. So how do you know if your case is completed? Do they email me? The consulate is Kuwait. I think the wait is about a week or so (I am guessing here).

Thanks again.

The only way to know if the packages were accepted is by calling NVC and asking an operator. This is the same way you'll find out if your case is complete. Only those doing EP (electronic processing) get a case complete email. Everyone else has to either find out through the AVR or from an operator. Good luck!

Not necessarily, if you provided NVC with your email, they will email you when your case is complete.

Like I said, I've only seen those doing EP get the case complete email. I have yet to see someone who didn't do EP get the case complete email.

Can you post it here? I'd like to compare it to the one I got and see if they're the same. Glad NVC has finally decided to email others as well and not just those doing EP.

Not a problem, I'll do it this afternoon because I'm in my phone at work.

This is what I received:

Dear Sir/Madam:

All documentation necessary to complete the National Visa Center's processing has been received. As soon as an interview date has been scheduled, the designated representative of this case (applicant, petitioner, or attorney) will be notified. The US Embassy or Consulate General may require additional documentation at the time of the interview.

Sincerely,

Sam

Yup, that's definitely a case complete email. It's slightly different from mine, just a few words different, but probably 90% the same. Super happy NVC is finally starting to change and send out case complete emails not just to EP folk.

Hi elkhris,

Cool! So how long was it from when they received the paperwork to when they emailed you the status? I am trying to find out when I should call to get a status.

Thanks.

You should be calling every single day!! That's what I did!

I agree 100% with Saylin, calling is the most effective way to get updates on your case, even though I receive the email 4 days before the official date of CC.
