I was wondering what types of evidence would I be able to send just in case I get asked so I can have the paperwork beforehand. My husband is in Mexico, never been to the U.S. I tried to open a bank account but was unable due to I had to get a visa that allowed me to make financial movements in Mexico. He has me listed as beneficiary on his job insurance, I have him listed as beneficiary on my bank account. I have already taken on his last name and my bank account currently reflects married name and maiden name on the side. I am currently in the U.S. but was living with him though bills came in his name, My income taxes and w-2 forms from last two years will reflect single only recently did I get a new job and on w-2 form checked married. Will that be good enough? or are there any more types of evidence I should gather?

From my personal experience, it is very hard to obtain bona fide financial obligations when your beneficiary has never entered the US. I am in the same boat. If anyone could provide suggestions, that would be great. My bank won't add my husband to my account because he is not here to sign the signature page nor was I able to add him on any of my bills because he does not have a SSN. Someone suggested to get a ITIN# from the IRS but I'm not sure how that could help us since he is living in Lebanon. After we got married, I had my last name changed to his, he is the beneficiary of my bank account. He is also the beneficiary of many other accounts such as my life insurance, 401K, retirement, etc. Once he gets here, there will be no problem with us having joint accounts on everything to include my house, but this is after the fact.

Good Luck.

Hello,

Try having your husband go to his local bank...I think there is a form where it states that you have full access to his account...and this shows more of a joint account rather than just a single account. You might have to have it all translated to english, and then notorized.

Good luck

Thank you, I will ask him about that. I was thinking about my own bank here in the U.S.

i'm also on the same boat. i tried to add my husband to my bank account (i'm with BofA) but they said i needed his signature. I added him to my credit card accounts but i don't know how much proof this is, since he is unable to use the credit cards. if anyone else has any advice i'd appreciate it as well.
