Stepdaughter, single, applied for the five year, only had minor part time jobs and even different have to file. But filed anyway, takes seconds with the EZ form and she also got five or so bucks back. Prime reason for doing this was knowledge that the USCIS would want to see tax returns, but was a wasted effort in this respect, not even required for the five year.

But don't know anything about you, married, single, going for the three or five year, relative age, dependent...... Have to give some of your background for an answer.

if i dont have any income , im dependent to someone , would they not give me citizenship ?

All I can say is that they never wanted to look at my stepdaughters miserably low part time job tax transcripts for the five year. They may show interest as to why your boy friend is supporting you and why you got a divorce. Every IO would be different, really don't know until you try.

If concerned, would wait until you get your life back together again. That would mean getting a job and becoming an independent person if marriage is out of the question. Having a boyfriend support you could infer prostitution, they don't like that.

If you had no or only very little income, you were not required to file an annual tax returns. Most immigrants do it anyway, as spending 10 minutes per year filling out an form online with a bunch of zeros in it is easier that having to explain while you didn't file and how you were able to buy bread and water and pay insurance on your fancy car. But if your story makes sense, you will not be denied U.S. citizenship because of it.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

Before Reagan, didn't even need health insurance, average doctors visit was five bucks, actually was cheaper to stay in a hospital room than staying at a Super 8 motel. And the hospital would give you three hots a day, Super 8 that was extra. Today that same exact hospital room with more wear and tear costs 3,000 bucks a day.

Governments answer to this was Medicaid, rather than return to the once health insurance company and hospital regulations we once enjoyed. Was concerned about this as my wife and stepdaughter could have been kicked off my health insurance policy if they had any kind of even minor pre-condition, like getting hit by a hit and run driver. To the best of my knowledge applying for and receiving Medicaid does not affect the immigration process in any way. Not even asked on any of the forms. And fortunately for us, that has never happened.

If anyone has to be concerned, its that person that signed that I-864 on you, that is the person that would be liable, since I signed that I-864, was the reason for my concern.

We are currently paying $14,000.00 per year for health insurance, but with a bit of manipulating, don't have to pay income tax on that, but that is post FICA taxes that is 14.8% of our gross income that we still have to pay, plus and everybody has to pay income taxes on that amount. This if partially for Medicare and some of the idiots in Washington DC are saying Medicare is going broke. Obama's health plan never addressed these huge expenses we all face.

Concerned about my stepdaughter, she is going to graduate next may, if she can't find a high paying job for her own health care, she darn well better stay in school. She will be kicked off our health plan and cost wise, doesn't make any difference if she is on it or not.

Welcome to America!

NickD - Off topic, but if I were you I would check into it. The insurance company can no longer drop children based on dependency status or school enrollment. Children can stay on their parents health insurance until they turn 27 yo since Obamacare. I have a 23 yo daughter who dropped out of college when she was 20 (pre-OC) and was dropped from my company health insurance. During last year's enrollment, I was able to add her back (no longer required to be a student - but on the upside she is back in college now!). Additionally, my 21 yo (who is a senior in college) got married this summer. I called to tell my insurance she was married and to remove her (thought she couldn't be on my insurance since she was no longer a dependent). They told me she is eligible until she turns 27 yo even if she is married. The only stipulation is neither can have any other health insurance.

Works out very well for the two of them as my company health insurance only has two groups; single and family. So with Rin, three stepchildren, and myself, I am on the family plan. No additional cost of keeping my biological children on the plan until they hit 27 yo (or until OC is repealed!).

Needed to revise above post. Would be 26th birthday, not 27th.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obamacare

<LI>Dependents (children) will be permitted to remain on their parents' insurance plan until their 26th birthday,[48] and regulations implemented under the Act include dependents that no longer live with their parents, are not a dependent on a parent’s tax return, are no longer a student, or are married.[49][50]

Thanks for the update, ha, been tossing my health insurance updates, get a migraine when reading them.

Can't believe the people from Wisconsin voting Senator Johnson as our new senator. Employs 120 people in Oshkosh making plastic bags that are overflowing the Pacific Ocean, many are on either Badger or Medicaid. Promised to reduce taxes, but used 17 million bucks of his own money to get elected. He is against OC or Obama Care as it is inaccurately called. One good way to lower taxes. Even at this time, a year later, never set up an immigration office.

Shouldn't actually make any difference who is elected as long as they represent the people. But can only question which person they are representing, certainly, not the majority.

Suppose my stepdaughter could have also gone on Medicaid, ha, least I am free of the I-864 with her now. Rather than being able to vote, being free of the I-864 should be the key reason for applying for US citizenship at the earliest date.

Wifes' first job was working in patient assistance at our hospital, could try yours, she helped people fill out all those forms for Medicaid plus some odd 30 other forms of public and private aid to her hospital. Law states that ER cannot turn down any patient, she helped to bring in a couple of million a year in various sorts of aid. All I can say on this, she always came home with a bad headache. She took college courses to become a medical interpreter at over twice the pay and really enjoys her work now, no more governmental forms to fill out.

Those were busy days for us, stepdaughter with lots of help with English in the afternoon, helping my wife with her studies at night. Very proud of my girls.

Are you sure about wanting to get pregnant? Kids need both parents in this day and age to survive.
