I am curious. I have a friend that is petitioning for his wife and 2 daughters in Dominican Republic. He is an alíen resident. He has been here for about 4 years. He submitted his I-130 in February. I have been told that the process is taking the same time as a US citizen. Does anyone know how true is that? If not how long is this type of petition taking. Any information Will be helpful. Thanks!!

I am not sure how this works. You said he's an alien resident? I thought only citizens could do that. But hey I could be wrong.

It takes a lot longer for a LPR than a Citizen. They need to wait for their priority date to be current, so there is an available visa number for them. A petition from a citizen automatically generates a visa number, but an LPR is subject to annual limits. Look up "visa bulletin" and you will see that they are in the F2A category, and they are working on petitions filed in 2008 from people in F2A category. http://travel.state.gov/visa/bulletin/bulletin_5542.html So it looks like they will have 3 extra years, in addition to the one year it takes to process the visa.

My uncle an Legal permanent resident petitioned his daughters on an F2A category and it took him 4 years from beginning to interview date.
