Hello everyone,

I asked a similar question several weeks back to a very helpful member, but I wanted to get some other thoughts as well. My fiancée has her birth certificate and it's the long form type. The birth certificate (as well as her name change, divorce, etc.) she gave me to submit in our I 129F were Xerox copies. These were all stamped/signed before they were copied. This of course showed they came from her local Amphur. Then, they all had English translations in WORD format and were stamped and certified so. Now for Packet 3, they require the originals. There are no originals (her birth, name change, divorce, marriage), so would these copies I just spoke of be ok? Or does May have to go back to the Amphur and have copies made again with a fresh stamp? Just to show that these are certified copies of the originals at the interview? I know this is pretty common that this happens. Just curious what others have done.

Thank you.

A photocopy is sufficient to mail to the embassy. She should bring the originals with her to the interview, in case the officer requests them. Although this likely happens from time to time, we have yet to experience it, nor have read anyone report that originals were asked for at the time of the K-1 visa interview.

Thank you. So would you suggest that I have her go back to the Amphur and have all the copies stamped again with fresh stamps? Then those can be considered the certified originals? She doesn't have the originals. I want her to be prepared in case the CO does ask for any, and this is the next best thing I would think. From what you said, it sounds like you haven't heard of any CO asking for originals?

"Original" means the original document obtained from the government office; i.e., the paper which was stamped when it was issued. They realize the Amphur isn't going to give her the actual original document from their files.

Thank you Jim. So would the copies that I have already be sufficient if the CO asks at her interview? From what May has told me, the originals were lost and she can only get copies.
