Check this link http://www.visajourn...tent/i130guide1. Remember the marraige certificate needs to be an offical certificate - meaning the church certificate may have to be registered with some Government Authority. Check that out.

Hi there.. Congrats on the Marriage! The good news is that I found the gathering of documents for the marriage in Colombia a bigger pain than the visa docs..

The first thing you are going to file is the I-130 and its support documents - after which you will be sitting around several months with plenty of time for the next step - so I would concentrate on getting the I-130 in first..

Here is the text of my cover letter for the I-130 that lists exactly what I sent (went through with no problems):

February 28, 2011

USCIS

Attn: 1-130

131 South Dearborn - 3rd Floor

Chicago, n., 60603-5517

Subject: 1-130 petition

Dear Sir/Madam:

Enclosed please find the form 1-130, Petition for Alien Relative on behalf of my wife <Mrs OnMyWayID>. Included are the following documents:

• Application Fee (personal check) in the amount of $420.00

• 1-130 Petition for Alien Relative

• Completed Form G-325A (Petitioner)

• Passport Style Photo (Petitioner)

• Completed Form G-325A (Beneficiary)

• Passport Style Photo (Beneficiary)

• Copy of Birth Certificate (Petitioner)

• Copy of biographical pages of U.S. Passport (Petitioner)

• Copy of biographical pages of Colombian Passport (Beneficiary)

• Certified Copy of divorce decree for previous marriage (Petitioner)

• Copy of Petitioner and Beneficiary' s Marriage Certificate and English Translation

• Evidence of Petitioner and Beneficiary's Relationship

o Time-line of relationship and explanation of evidence

o Photos evidencing our relationship from May 2010 to the present

o Passport copies of stamps showing the times out of the country for both the petitioner and the beneficiary

o Phone bills for communication (calls and texts) while the beneficiary was in the Dominican Republic

o Chat logs detail showing communication after the beneficiary returned to Colombia

o Wedding photos from Colombia with both families present

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you very much for your help.

The main thing if you are concerned about time is getting your wife's signed G-325A and two American sized passport pictures since that may require mailing them from Colombia.

Any questions on the particulars let me know...

Your wife's G-325a can be signed at her interview. Print out a copy of hers without her signature. USCIS is not supposed to send an RFE for an unsigned G-325A from a beneficiary residing in a foreign country. And I agree that getting the paperwork ready to get married in Colombia is great practice for this process, and no apostilles necessary.

Not supposed to is doesn't mean they won't, if an RFE is generated for a signature on a G-325A, then a signed G-325A would have to be provided.

Then with the unsigned G-325A you attach a copy of the memo from their boss telling them they're not supposed to send an RFE, as a reminder.http://www.uscis.gov/files/pressrelease/I1...325A_110105.pdf
