My wife is from Surigao City, the northern part of Mindanao.

I never encountered any problems. Actually, I have met lots of nice poeple there. I know there are lots of bombings in Cotaboto.

I don't think i would want to go too far south, but i always felt safe in Surigao.

I'm from Mindanao too..South part. We visited there last year with our 9 month old son and everything was fine. I'm flying back again in less than 2 weeks with our 5 months old daugther to visit my family. I can say there is no safer place anymore.

Well I am getting a little confused, One guy that's been to Surigao at the Northern most part of the Island felt safe there but doesnt want to go to far south.

the guy thats been to General Santos at the southern etreme feels safe there but won't go west.

Mrs CDO comes from the city with the 2009 massacre named after it and is vouching for it's safety.

:help:

OK my conclusion is............... Stay out of the Southwest city of Cotaboto

Massacre in 2009,our city was named after it? Are you sure? Where did you get that? Are you talking about the Maguindanao Massacre? FYI that happened in South Cotabato, not anywhere near Cagayan de Oro. All I can say is if you don't want to be a target when you come to visit Mindanao or any other place in Philippines then don't go flaunting your wealth, keep a low profile and show utmost respect to everyone.

My wife is from the Davao area. I'm getting ready to make my fourth trip over there. I never have seen or had one problem. Especially in her home town about 4 hours from Davao it's a extremely peaceful and relaxing place. It would be great to live there if I could get used to the heat and had good long term employment.

My bad. I apologize to the whole city of Cagayan de Oro. I've been calling it the Cagayan de Oro Massacre ever since it happened. Since I had never heard of Cagayan de Oro before that, I can only guess

that the all the reporting was coming from Cagayan de Oro. It made it on to main stream media here. I suppose I heard something like this is John Phillips in Cagayan de Oro reporting.

NEWS RELEASE

November 27, 2009

Lawyers to collaborate with CHR on Maguindanao Massacre

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The killing of two lawyers in the Maguindanao Massacre punctuated the gathering of almost a hundred lawyers and paralegal staff during the 3rd assembly of the Union of People’s Lawyers in Mindanao held in Philtown Hotel, this city.

The laywers are also set to collaborate with the Commission on Human Rights to seek justice for the Maguindanao massacre victims.

I just copied text from one of the stories, They say it correctly but the dateline CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY is what sticks out to me, possibly it's just easier for my brain to remember that name

So it was a good thing I posted here so you could correct me.

However to your advice of keeping a low profile, When you are 6ft1 and glow in the dark you can't keep a low profile in the Philippines

Without doing a lot of intensive any research to find out exactly which areas of Mindanao would be safe I eliminated those girls from consideration.

^^^ Translation: I'm lazy. :bonk::lol:

Dan...Tell the truth...are you having any regrets now that you found out that the women of Mindanao rock and you could have safely visited them? :secret::o

It's OK to avoid certain areas in the world when seeking a mate. When I was single, I avoided certain parts of US towns where even the Dominoes Pizza guy will not deliver to. Also, Ghetto Girls are just too loud and full of drama. In the Phils, Did not want a city girl. Looked for and found a province girl south of Cebu. I was only willing to go to CDO and maybe Davoa, but glad I don't have to go into Mindanao. It's all about your comfort level, and you alone. Some here love the South. I will leave it for them and not deride their choice.

The old saying holds true: If you want to hunt an elephant, you must go where the elephants are. Otherwise, you will never find your prize. Cheers.

Strange topic, I just had to read the thread, and now I guess I have to reply.

My first trip in November 2006 to visit Jena was to Iligan City, Mindanao. Our government had a travel warning for all of Mindanao at the time. Having never traveled outside the US I was pretty nervous but Jena assured me everything would be safe. I put my trust in her and her family over the warning from our government.

U.S., Australia warn of imminent terrorist attacks in Philippines

11:01' 11/10/2006 (GMT+7)

The United States Embassy in Manila Tuesday said it received credible information that terrorists will stages bombing attacks in the southern Philippine region of Mindanao in the coming days.

Mindanao, an island in the southern part of the Philippines

The embassy warned American citizens in the Philippines to avoid travel to Mindanao due to threats of possible terror attacks, while American citizens residing and or working in the said area were urged to keep a low profile and reassess their personal safety.

This seems to be the current advisory from the US goverment.

Travel Warning
U.S. DEPARTMENT OF STATE
Bureau of Consular Affairs

Philippines

June 14, 2011

The Department of State warns U.S. citizens of the risks of terrorist activity in the Philippines, particularly in the Sulu Archipelago and on the island of Mindanao. Terrorist attacks could be indiscriminate and could occur in other areas, to include Manila. Targeted sites may be public gathering places including, but not limited to, airports, shopping malls, conference centers, and other public venues. This Travel Warning replaces the Travel Warning dated November 2, 2010, and updates specific regions of concern and reflects continuing threats due to terrorist and insurgent activities.

Travelers should exercise extreme caution if traveling to Mindanao or the Sulu Archipelago. Regional terrorist groups have carried out bombings resulting in injuries and death. Sporadic clashes have occurred between lawless groups and the Philippine Armed Forces throughout Mindanao, particularly in rural areas. U.S. Government employees must seek special permission to travel to Mindanao or the Sulu Archipelago.

The Philippine government declared a state of emergency on November 24, 2009, for the Maguindanao and Sultan Kudarat provinces, as well as Cotabato City in Mindanao, as a result of election-related violence. Although the elections have passed, this state of emergency is still in effect. Travelers should be aware of heightened police activity and significant military presence in these areas. They should carefully research restrictions imposed on travel and follow the instructions of government officials.

Kidnap-for-ransom gangs are active throughout the Philippines and have targeted foreigners. U.S. citizens traveling, living, and working throughout the Philippines are urged to exercise heightened caution in public gathering places. U.S. citizens should exercise caution when traveling in the vicinity of demonstrations since they can turn confrontational and possibly escalate to violence.

The Department of State remains concerned about the continuing threat of terrorist actions and violence against U.S. citizens and interests throughout the world. The Worldwide Caution reminds U.S. citizens that terrorism can occur anywhere.

We encourage all U.S. citizens in the Philippines to enroll with the Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program or at the U.S. Embassy in Manila. By enrolling, you can receive the Embassy’s most recent security and safety updates during your trip. Enrolling also ensures that we can reach you, or your designated emergency points of contact, during an emergency. The U.S. Embassy is located at: 1201 Roxas Boulevard, Manila, Philippines, tel. 63-2-301-2000. The American Citizens Services (ACS) section's fax number is 63-2-301-2017, and you may reach the ACS Section by email at ACSinfoManila@state.gov. The ACS Section’s website includes consular information and the most recent messages to the U.S. citizen community in the Philippines.

For more detailed information on general crime and security issues in the Philippines, please see the State Department’s Country Specific Information for the Philippines.

You may also obtain information on security by calling 1-888-407-4747 toll-free in the United States and Canada or, for callers outside the United States and Canada, a regular toll line at 1-202-501-4444. These numbers are available from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday (except U.S. federal holidays).

When I started looking on "Philippino Kisses", I avoided girls from Mindanao because I thought it would be dangerous to visit them.

"I also eliminated girls that claimed to be divorced and girls that had young kids."

This is in a regional forum "Philippines" so I assumed I can use my native dialect.

By the way I speak English just fine but maybe you can learn something about the Philippines and Mindanao by learning our native tongue.

Maybe you should stay in America where it safe under your mother skirt.

I did my best to translate this for you.

We went to the market and they had a sale!!! I am from Malasila in North Cotabato. I have family

in Asuncion Davao del Norte. Right now my parents live in Bayugan, Agusan del Sur. I got a car

in Mindanao but by the grace of God I haven't crashed yet.

I don't like your generalizations, not all of Mindanao is dangerous.

You are treating the Philippine women like fish or meat that you buy in the store.

You will meet the master in your underware.

There is danger anywhere you go. Even in your own house you may fall into quicksand.

Play the Mandolin in the bathroom because When you gotta go, you gotta go.

feel free to correct me if I made any mistakes

The last time I tried to crawl under my mothers skirts she beat me with her cane.

My head is still sore, and that was almost a week ago
