Hey guys... I am hoping someone can offer some feedback regarding the fiance visa interview process. My fiance is from the Bahamas and I went with him to his visa interview back in May. We were interviewed separately by 2 officers. The one CO who spoke and asked all the questions was a guy, the other officer who just recorded our responses was a pregnant female. We were asked only a couple questions about our relationship, the rest of the interview was referring to if my fiance was working, and he never was. Anyway the CO could rephrase and ask that question he did. After the interview my fiance was asked to submit additional financial information to prove that his father was sending us money when he was living with me in the US and to prove he was never working in the US. The end of June my fiance submitted the requested documents and was told the officers would review them. A few days later, the embassy contacted us to let us know the officer requested a 2nd interview because the pregnant officer is now on maternity leave. The few people that I know that I have gone through similiar situations (under AP), eventually received their approvals in the mail. Our interview is next Friday, I took time off of work, flights to the Bahamas in the summer are not cheap and a hotel there is not cheap either. I am hoping and praying we will receive good news after this next interview. Throughout this whole process, we never knew what to expect. After interview #1, we thought we would leave with an approval and we can move on with the next stage in our lives but it was heartbreaking to leave my fiance not knowing an outcome. Of course the money spent means nothing because at least I get to spend a couple days with my fiance, but I REALLY hope the Embassy wouldn't request us both to be there just to deliver bad news.

Has anyone ever gone back for a 2nd interview? I am a nervous wreck and I just want to get married to my amazing better half!!! Any encouraging words/ personal feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I wish everyone on this "journey" much luck and happiness because I understand how frustrating it can be being separated from your loved one.

Your information is a little sketchy. From what I gather, your fiance spent some time visiting you in the US, yes? And during this time his dad was sending him cash, right?

It sounds like the CO has some evidence that your fiance was working illegally while he was in the US. The evidence is apparently not entirely conclusive or they wouldn't have kept asking the same question over and over trying to get an admission of guilt from him - they would have simply denied the visa.

It would be really helpful if you knew what evidence they had so you could be prepared to respond at the next interview. Second interviews are unusual at any consulate. Occasionally, a second interview is a relatively simple formality. More often than not, a second interview usually means a Stokes interrogation. They separate you and ask you each a bunch of questions, and then compare your answers. Those sort of interviews are not pleasant. I don't know enough about your situation to know with any certainty if you're going to get a Stokes interrogation, but you should probably be prepared for it.

Thank you for the response, that is making me even more nervous than I already am. To answer your question, and to hopefully clarify any sketchiness...

My fiance attended college in the US - legally. After college he was allowed to work for 1 year on an OPT authorization, which he did. After he finished working legally, he travelled back and forth from the US to the Bahamas every 6 months on a "police record". You are allowed to travel on police record for up to 6 months at a time. He never overstayed over the 6 months. He would go back home for a few weeks (he stayed home for over a year 2007-2008) get his police record and then return back to the states and lived with me. He was allowed to do this for years. Last June we got engaged, the end of the month he had to return home to renew his police record. When he tried to come back, Custom's stopped him and told him he needs to get a proper visa, since we were engaged the agent said to get a fiance visa. Since he was denied entry we have been petitioning for the fiance visa so we can get married. We have been in a relationship since December 2006. My fiance NEVER worked, not once. I worked and supported us, and his father would send money to help with bills as well. We have bank records to prove this.

I am not sure what evidence the Embassy could find because my fiance NEVER worked. So, I have no idea how to prepare for this second interview as you stated. The interview process was awful the first time around, I left in tears on how the officer pretty much interrogated me, and made me feel like falling in love with a foreignor was something illegal. I appreciate your honest feedback, but now I am really nervous because you never know what to expect when it comes to the Embassy.
