Yeah your police check needs to be done in a police station and it tells you that on the instructions on US consulate site Sydney. That now will take aprox 4 weeks to get back to you depending on where you are. If in Sydney it took 4 weeks for me to get mine back.

Go to your local doctor and have a serolgy test done to see what immunisations you have had and they can give you any missing ones. Mainly MMR which I am sure you would have had from school and your infant immunisations.

--o Mumps
--o Measles
--o Rubella
--o Polio
--o Tetanus and Diphtheria Toxoids
--o Pertussis
--o Haemophilus influenzae type B
--o Hepatitis B

For your medical they will teest you fro Syphilis and x ray for TB

Once you have if any catch up immunisation then get the report and take that to the medical too.

I just had my medical in April.

I didn't have proof of my vaccinations either, even though I had all of my childhood/school ones.

I told the panel physician about this when I booked in for my medical...and they told me to go to my local doctor and have serology tests done for MMR (measles/mumps/rubella) and chicken pox (varicella), and to just go ahead and have a Tdap (Boostrix) booster (Tetanus/Diphtheria/Acellular Pertussis (whooping cough)) and the flu shot. The flu shot is only required during flu season.

Keep in mind also that even if you have had the vaccinations as a child/teenager....immunity wears off. My blood tests showed I had no immunity to either Measles or Mumps, but I did have immunity to Rubella - and those three things are in the combined MMR shot I had at school. I didn't have immunity to chicken pox either.

So all in all...I ended up having to have all the vaccinations again, even though I had them at school. If you need to have any vaccinations they will probably be a whole lot cheaper (or maybe even free) if you have them done by your local doctor....the panel physicians usually charge an arm and a leg...and if you end up having to have four shots like I did that probably wont be a pleasant experience to have them all done on the day of the medical!!

Oh...and by the way....I believe you only have to have the first shot in a course in order to be ok for immigration...you don't need to have the full course before you will be given the visa (it says this on the CDC website in the instructions for panel physicians section somewhere).

And....finally....yeah the police check needs to be done based on a fingerprint and name check. Check out the US embassy Canberra website for links for the police certificates for each state.

Good luck with it all!

wow thats really strange you had to have all your vaccinations again as I gather you are relatively young. I had all my jabs as a young girl and had the serology test done which is what I said to the OP in my post . I did not have to have any and I was 52 all I needed was a flu shot here for AOS. I had a tetanus back in 2006 so I was ok for that. DID you have the triple antigen as a child? which covers measles mumps polio and chicken pox was separate? Just curious is all.

Well....age is relative lol...but I'll be 29 in October.

My mum had my baby book where she had written in all of my vaccinations as a baby. I remember having the MMR and Tetanus/Diphtheria/Polio ones done at high school - I remember because I hate needles and I had mild reactions to them (as I nearly always do with any vaccinations). I don't have any record of having a chicken pox vaccination, I never had chicken pox as a child, and my serology showed no immunity so hence why I had to have that one.

It is strange though that I have immunity to Rubella, but not to measles or mumps, even though this is the combined vaccination I had at school. And I never had rubella either so I didn't get immunity that way, so it must be from the vaccination.

I was just told by the panel physician (well, his receptionist) that since I didn't have accurate records to just go ahead and get the Tdap (Boostrix) done - so I may not have really needed that one, I don't know.

Either way, I'm glad they are all done and over with now!! Two blood tests and 4 vaccinations in the space of two weeks was definitely not a fun experience for a needle-phobe like me!

Did you have the Menengecocal shot in high school? My girls had to have that and they are 24 and 22 as they were doing all high school kids back in 2002 on and they had the Rubella booster when they entered high school. Ya poor thing it is awful if you don't like needles.

Nope! I finished school in 2000....so I missed out on that one lol!

Umm...yeah...not good with needles at all! I'd never even had a blood test before had it done for the serology! The guy that did it was awesome though and I barely felt it so that helped me to chill out a bit and not be such a big baby! But the last two vaccinations were done by a doctor (the first two were by a nurse), and he hit a blood vessel so that caused me to bruise and have a dead arm for a day or so! Lucky they were the last two I needed or I would be even less happy about going back for more!!

Well, I can't speak for those done in Ireland, but for us here in Australia, yes, it has to be done based on fingerprints.

Have you tried asking the question in Ireland's portal? They would probably be able to give a more specific answer for what is required in Ireland.

Good luck.
