I agree. Using a K-1 Visa. You will have to wait for either the AOS or EAD which takes time. You would ck N/A or No. You cannot look for work until you have One or both of these Forms in your hands.

I answered "YES, WITH WORK AUTHORIZATION, EMPLOYER UNKNOWN" as per VJ sample form (http://www.visajourney.com/examples/Form-DS-156.pdf. I had my interview on July 31, 2011 but my answer never an issue to the CO. You may or you may not answer the same as I did.

I said YES and specified only if there is work authorization and employer is unknown. I followed the sample forms here on visa journey because it makes sense. Just look at the K-1 flow here...you can even apply for SS number a day after your arrival and once you have that, you can start looking for job.

A K-1er is most certainly allowed to look for work before they AOS or have an EAD. If a K-1er finds a job, they simply will have to wait for their EAD.

Also, a K-1er doesn't need to complete the AOS process in order to work. They only need a Social Security number and an EAD.

On her DS-156 regarding the question about whether she planned to work in the U.S., Chinook answered "yes." During her interview, the consular officer noticed that Chinook was a nurse asked her if she would be looking for a nursing job in the U.S. She told the consular officer that, indeed, she planned to pursue her nursing career in the U.S. The consular officer had no problem with that, and made a positive comment about it.
