My wife still has her maiden name on her Indian passport but her Green Card and US License has her married name. I am taking a cruise to Bahamas but State Govt. at Nassau, Bahamas cannot say for sure if I can travel or not, since the names dont match and if I can travel then what documents should i carry with me.

Should i book tickets and everything with her maiden name on the passport (from India) or her married name on the Green Card.

Do we have any link out there that proves that i can use the name on passport or GC? I have certified marriage certificate. Is that enough? I dont want this to cause an issue when i travel bcuz its our anniversary and dont want this confusion to haunt us on the trip :)

Thanks a lot

You will need to use your wife's maiden name as on passport not GC and take marriage certificate with and it should be fine.

Divorced !st November 2012.

Anything out there on USCIS or CBP site that says this is all you need to travel to Bahamas? I dont want to get stuck somewhere...if you know what i mean. Should I take anything else? I am flying to Miami but I still need to book tickets with her maiden passport name.

Thanks a lot

Your wife is travelling on her government issued ID and the name on the tickets MUST match that government issued ID. Now where people get confused is to WHICH government issued ID they are to use. For international travel that government issued ID is a passport. For your wife it is the passport of her home country and the name on the ticket MUST match that ID. So for her it would be in her maiden name. If you are using a DL or the GC as a form of ID--travel within the US--then the name on the ticket MUST match the ID being used. When your wife re-enters the US, she will have to show her GC with her married name. Most people recommend carrying a copy of the marriage certificate to show that she was the name in her passport and she is now the name on her GC. Most CBP people will make the connection without too much trouble, but it never hurts to err on the said of caution.

Purchase the tickets in her maiden name and she will use her Indian passport as her form of ID. The GC is only shown for return to the US.

Good luck,

Dave

P.S. this information is for international travel in general and may not be correct for travel within the Western Hemisphere as there maybe some differences I have not checked into as we have yet to travel to any destinations that are not Europe or Asia. When in doubt about tavel documents always check the State Department website.
