Hi, im going for a k-1 fiance visa for the USA, i am from the UK. i recived my packet 3 letter today and i have posted off:

DS-230 part 1

DS-156 x2

DS-156k

DS-157 x2

With a cover letter

I didnt send the DS-2001 as i didnt think i should as i havent had my medical interview and such, but i have all my documents such as my police certificate and such. I was going to send it off with packet 4 when i recieve it as i was under the understanding that this form is to confirm that you have everything done except for your interview. Is this right?? can anyone confirm that??

Could anyone tell me what to expect in the next packet too? I think i know what im doing i just would like some guidence to know that i am doing everything correctly.....

Any help will be apprecietd....i dont want to pull my hair out with this...

Hiya,

Sounds like we are at the same stage. I dont think it would hurt to send the DS-2001. I think I will as it asks for it. So you dont have to send birth certificate, police record etc with these forms? do you send them later or something? In the next packet I think you get a date for your appointment and a checklist of what you require. however I am not 100% sure.

hope this helps, certain things are really confusing now!

Well its just confusing, i dont want to send the DS-2001 and get called for an interview if i havent had my medical. Doesnt seem like there is anyone to contact unless you spend a ton of money phoning them. I dont know whether to go ahead and book my medical either. I think you take your cerificates and such to the interview with you, you dont post them in as far as i know.

I just think the letter they sent and the instructions are so vague, i folloed step one and mailed off the forms with out DS-2001 cause that was mentioned in step 2 so im confused......

The DS-2001 is the readiness form and can be sent in once you have gathered all your documents like police certificate, birth certificate, divorce paper etc. You can send that in before you have your medical and London won't assign an interview date before it has received both form DS-2001 (plus all the other DS forms) and the medical results which Knightbridge will send directly to the embassy so the sooner you send the DS-2001 the sooner the better if you have everything else lined up.

My understanding is that "packet 4" is the interview letter, i.e. the appointment letter giving you the details on when you have to show up for your interview at the embassy. This means that you will only get packet 4 AFTER you submitted your readiness form and done your medical.

Hope this helps.

EDIT: You don't send in the documents (PC, BC, etc) by post but bring them to the interview!

You really want to book your medical ASAP if you want to progress in this process - as I mentioned in the previous post London will not give you an interview date until it has received your medical results, the DS documents and the readiness form. You will need your London case number (starts with LND) to book your medical and you will need to bring passport, passport picture, police record and immunization records for the medical.

So do you think it will be ok for me to post of the DS-2001 on its own?? and it should find its way to the rest of my documents. I think i would include a cover letter. Kind of annoying because i sent everything off special delivery today so it will all get there tomorrow grrrr

Please don't growl at me ;) Yes, I think a cover letter would be a good idea - if your original cover letter didn't have the info also include your email and planned wedding date, if you already had all that info in the original letter I would just stick in another copy of that.

As you don't have a medical set up yet I don't know if you need to send the DS-2001 next day delivery; for peace of mind I would send it trackable but maybe there's a less pricey option...

IF you have your medical scheduled and you have sent all your forms in but the DS-2001 then I would defo send your DS-2001 out tomorrow with a cover letter. Send it first class recorded. Remember you bring your Police certificate, Birth certificate, Divorce decree (if applicable) and I-134 with supporting docs and 3 US sized passport photos to the Embassy interview with you, MAKE COPIES! They look at originals and keep the copies. At the medical you must bring your passport, police certificate and 1 passport sized photograph and vaccination records if you have them.

EDIT: In the cover letter bit, obviously omit the forms in contents that you have sent. Maybe make mention of the fact that those other forms have been submitted in a separate packet.

PS. Packet 4 is your interview letter.

PPS. You can call DOS and see when your medical is logged and all of packet 3. Once they have been logged DOS can also tell you if an interview has been scheduled even before you get your packet 4 letter.

DOS is the free number: 202-663-1225 open from 8am till midnight EST

Just remember to send it off AFTER you have phones Knightsbridge and received your medical appointment. You must put your medical appointment on the cover letter or the Embassy will not schedule you an interview.

It tells you on the embassy instructions http://london.usembassy.gov/iv_15.html Read the whole page and follow all links.

When you have obtained all of the required documents and are prepared for the visa interview, you are required to complete the Notification of Applicant(s) Readiness, Form 2001 and mail it to the Immigrant Visa Unit together with a covering letter containing your email address, if applicable, date of your wedding
and date of the medical examination.

London must have 3 things before you will get an interview letter (aka Packet 4)

Your application forms

Your DS-2001 Readiness formwith cover letter

Results of your medical exam (sent by Knightsbridge directly to the embassy)
