Embassy Review : I had my K-1 fiance visa interview today; and 8am one which wasnt welcomed much by me grumbling as i got out of bed at 5am, but besides that I thought i would share my experiences of the dreads interview at the US embassy, London......

I arrived at the embassy early, not too early as i was told not to do so but im glad i did come early as a que quickly formed to enter into the embassy which is rediculously secure in a rather intimidating way. If the peering glance of its very large American Eagle statue on the roof wasnt enough to make you feel a little more than nervous, the police with guns sure did the trick.

On joining the que a lady looked at my appointment letter, asked me if i had phones and such and if so if i could put them somewhere away from the embassy (your not allowed them into the building) i waited in line for about half and hour before i was called to a security guard who checked my passport and ushered me to another que; to enter a small room where you under went an airport like x-ray, putting all your stuff into a bin and walking through a scanner.

After this i was directed out and walked around the corner of the embassy to a side door, up some stairs and again, a lady at the desk checked my papers and gave me a ticket number which she attached to letter and asked me to wait until it was called. I waited a while for this, I guess it does depend on your visa how long you have to wait, but i was in there for at least and hour before i was called to the first window; i cant hide the fact that my nerves were getting to me a bit......the number flashed up on the tv screens over head and i carried all my forms and documents to the small booth type window.

Nervously i walked to the window, trying to keep a hold of everything i had, running through a million revised questions in my mind, expecting some sort of spanish inquisition....but no........i was greeted with a very lovely, bubbly young lady who told me to take my time and was very informal with me through everything, even chatting to me about how difficult it must be experiencing the woes of LDR (Long Distance Relationships). She took my finger prints, went through my forms, maintaining a friendly chat as she did so, asking me if i had each document as she went through and ticked them off accordingly. She asked me questions, like how we met, how long we been together, what does your fiance do as a job and so on, (even sharing a few jokes with me along the way) but she did it as if she was generally asking and it didnt seem to much of the interrorgation that is imagined by pre interview nerves........

Once i handed in all the needed forms the lady handed me my courier form and explained to me further processes that would need to be done for the next part (AOS) and gave me some reasonable and helpful advice before she asked me to go wait for my number to be called again.

Here i waited longer, my nerves not as much as before, i was calmer now, it seemed like the dreaded impressions i had of this proceedure were completely false. I did wait quite a while longer, maybe another hour or so, it started to drag and i was feeling tired. Eventually i was called again, this time to another window where an American Officer lady greeted me. I had my finger prints taken again to varify them before i was asked a couple of questions, nothing more than before, again, done in a very informal manner before i had to raise my right hand and swear an oath. She chatted with me some more, and told me about the next steps to take again (AOS) before she stamped my visa and sent me to the courier to pay my fee and i was done!!

Over all if you have everything you need for your interview, make sure you have your checklist and double check all your forms you wont have a problem. The people at the Embassy were nothing but polite and friendly to me, very relaxing. Yes the wait is long and it does get draining but having nerves about it being an interrorgation or imposing is a false assumption and just a monster built in your head!! I have no complaints about how the interview went and i hope that me writing my experiences might help sooth the nerves of anyone who is heading to their interview with a daunting feeling.......

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
