After contacting NVC today we have been told our application has been sent to London and i have our NVC case number. I am currently in the usa visiting my fiancee and can remain here until August 31st. Obviously i will be going back to England by then, i was curious as to how best to arrange things to speed things up. I have heard that in order for the interview to be arranged the medical must take place first. Should i pay to move my flight up and fly back earlier to take the medical so that the interview can be arranged sooner or continue as planned and fly back on August 28th and arrange the medical asap once i arrive in England and hope the interview date is arranged quickly thereafter?

Depends if you want to immigrate/get married sooner for any reason. As you are currently visiting your fiancée you won't be away from her for any longer length of time if you decide to wait.

If you can, you can fill in and return to the Embassy all the forms that are required whilst you are still in the US. You can also phone the doctors and make a medical appointment for soon after you arrive back in the UK. They're unlikely to be able to give you an appointment immediately anyway, so it wouldn't be worth flying back today. If you have your documents all ready (including police certificate) then you can also send in DS-2001 to say you are ready for the interview. You can write your medical appointment date on there. (You can also write that you're not available till after August 28th, although as your medical won't be till after then you probably don't need to write this.) It is possible, though maybe not likely, that they will be able to arrange your interview for soon after your medical if they know when it is, because sometimes they do seem to do this rather than wait till they have the medical results...so it's worth a shot at least.

Once you have your medical arranged and assuming you have all your paper work together like police certificate (which you MUST have for the medical to take place and is presented at the interview too not mailed in so make copies in order to maintain the original), I-134 with supporting documents and all the packet 3 documents filled out (which you can get online here: http://london.usembassy.gov/iv_15.html) with a cover letter then you can send them off to the embassy before the medical, you just put the date of your medical on the cover letter. Remember you don't get an appointment right away at Knightsbridge, they are busy. Also after your medical it takes about 2 weeks to log at the embassy but once it is logged and assuming your packet 3 is logged too then your packet 4 will follow not too long after. Your interview date will most likely be anywhere from 3-6 weeks out. If you ask me both Jock and I agree, we would get home sooner so you can get back sooner!!

When I was going through the K1 stuff last year, I received packet 3 towards the end of May, sent all the required forms in within a week, had my medical June 15th and even though my medical went well, I didn't have my interview until August 10th... So if I were you I'd go back sooner rather than later and get your medical booked for as soon as possible. Obviously every case is different, but I just wanted you to know it can take a lot longer than you think to have your interview and get your visa in hand (to be safe, add on another 2-3 weeks for that part!)

Good luck! :)

Just for your information: Some people on this forum have reported getting very late interview dates at the London embassy presumably because they put on the cover letter that their wedding isn't until later in the year. If you put November 18 on your cover letter as your wedding date, from experience reports from London it is quite likely that even if you came back early August and got your medical the week after that your interview might not be scheduled until late October...

Is it a requirement that the date of the ceremo.y is included? If so could we not list an earlier date?

It is not a requirement that you list the wedding date on the cover letter no and it wouldn't be a problem is you said that your wedding date was earlier either. Many have done this in the past for lots of reasons. Some people have to meet with churches, file for marriage licenses etc and need to physically be there ahead of time for many legitimate reasons so they "pad" their wedding date.

If you can send your forms off from the US and book the medical before changing the flight...I mean, I wouldn't like for you to fly back on the 2nd only to find that you can't get a medical for a few weeks after that :-)
