So on my I-129f I didnt put my Finace's "middle names" in english since he has like 3 but (neither in the other names used -which i probably should have) but I put his entire name in the naitve alphabet option. Im starting to worry that this maybe be a problem down the line. See the reason is Egyptian names are your name-dad's name-grandfather name-great grandfathers name, then, eventually family names. Reason i didnt want to write them is because I am Egyptian also and have a different name on each document- ss card, passport, certificate of citizenship, etc and didnt want my fiance to have the same problem. Its such a hassle and has giving me issues when applying for anything (like my license). Also, technically they are not really middles names- just extra names.....

I already sent in the form and should receive the I-797 soon ....should I (can I) correct this now or ....?

Did you write the first and last only? I wrote down his 5 names and sent a copy of his passport for that exact same reason. When I received my NOA1, USCIS only wrote down the first and last: Mohamed Mohamed. Frankly, everyone there could be Mohamed Mohamed. So, I called and asked them to add all his names to avoid getting a "hit." When they run background checks, if the name gets a hit, it triggers an AP. I don't know if it'll work, but I hope it does.

Don't ever do anything you're not willing to explain the paramedics.

AP= Administrative Processing. That means that during the interview they will run more checks and do an in depth investigation. They run the names to check with terrorist lists, criminals, etc. So if there's a match they wanna make sure your fiancee is NOT the person on that list. AP can take from 1 week to a year.

Writing the name in arabic doesn't help at this stage of the k-1 process since more than likely the USCIS officer doesn't read that language. Maybe you're lucky and thr officer working your case does. I do not know if you can add the middle names afterwards; you should call them. That said, I think you may have in issue since in the form, basically, you wrote 2 different names: a short version (first and last names) and the arabic, original version (in arabic).

I'd call USCIS and ask.

Don't ever do anything you're not willing to explain the paramedics.

Pretty much all Arab names can go on for ever before the last name. What is the name in the passport, as it is written in the passport? The official name is the name as it is written in the passport.

Soo...just called the NVC (National Visa Center) said it shouldn't be a problem since later on we have to provide documentation (birth certificate and what not) and that we can just add the full name on to the forms in the future....i hope the NVC is a credible source....i never heard about them...

The NVC is the DOS, which is basically what governs all the embassys. In general Arab names do not really have middle names in the sence of a given middle name. Middle names in Arab names are just the names of the father, grand-father, grand-grand father, grand-grand-grand father.....this can go on forever...until the last/family name. Some people use their father's name as a "middle name", others use all the names between the first and last names as "middle names". Writing the name in Arabic on the I-129 is probably just a formality (although that is what his/her name is really is). However, he/she is not applying to a visa in an Arab country (so the Arab name is less important)..,it is a visa for an english speaking country, so his name is really the name that he/she writes in english. Having said that, it is best to write the english name exactly as it is written in english in his/her passport. This way it will help avoid any confusion. When you get the NOA-1, copy it and send it with a letter requesting to include his/her name as it is written excatly in english is his/her passport. Again this will help avoid any confusion with other people who might have the same first and last name, and might help make the visa process go smoother for him/her.

Good Luck.

I remember that when we filed 2+ years ago, we just wrote First Name, Middle Name (father's name), Last Name (Surname). We attached an additional piece of paper in which we wrote the full name. On the same sheet of paper we also wrote down the mailing address since it was not the same as the residential address. They ended up still using that residential address as a mailing address and we had to fix that with the embassy and DHL... We had no problems at all with the whole name issue though :)...

NVC is the stage in between the NOA2 (petition approval by USCIS) and the consulate stage.

So once i receive the NOA1 do i send a copy with the letter to the address it came from? Do i need to attach a copy of his passport? Also, will they then send me a new NOA1?

So once i receive the NOA1 do i send a copy with the letter to the address it came from? Do i need to attach a copy of his passport? Also, will they then send me a new NOA1?

How many "middle names" did you include? Did you include at least his/her father's name? How many "middle names" does he/she have IN ENGLISH in his/her passport?

Again, ideally, the name in english should match the name in english in the passport. The CO's at the consulate in Egypt know how Arab names are, but to avoid any confusion or delay (as noted above by a poster), it is best if the name in english matches excatly his/her name in english in the passport. What you can do is when the NOA1 arrives, write a letter noting that you want to include his full name with all middle names as writen on his passport, and you can send it with a copy of the NOA1 to the service center your case is at (Vermont or California). You can include a copy of his passport if you want. They might not send you a new NOA1, but they should at least send you an aknowlegment letter. If they do not, then call the USCIS number and let them know so that they can send a note to the service center.

When completing applications, especially for MENA countries, it is best to be complete and accurate. This is to avoid any delays or confusion. For example if some one is called "Amro Diab"...there can be many others also with the name "Amro Diab". Including "middle names" can help avoid confusion that can cost months of waiting.

Other VJers may have better input.

Good Luck

I only included the first and last name- no middle name at all, He has 3 middle names  . I will wait till the NAO1 and send them a nice letter. I hope this works- but in case it doesnt i have called them several times and they said it shouldnt be a problem. I sent the package in such a haste (even though i triple checked things) that it didnt cross my mind till later that it might be a problem :bonk:

thanks again

You know, I would hold off and not send anything to the USCIS unless you get an RFE. You trying to submit new paperwork or additional paperwork may trigger a delay getting your NOA2.

When I did the paperwork for my husband, I made sure to put all names on the application that was on his passport. It was a pain, but it's doable. They are aware of the multiple names for Arabic people. Instead of thinking of 3 middle names, I typed it first name, middle name, multiple last names. Now his Green card, passport, social security card and driver's license all have the same names on them BUT the bank account, car insurance, etc has only his first and last name on it.

Social security tried to tell me that they couldn't fit all of his name on the line and actually sent his first card with only his first middle inital and last name on it and homeland security made them change it to his complete name. What a pain in the rump!!!

um.... now im not sure what to do....because thats y i didnt want to include it initially- its a hassle (im egyptian and deal with it in all my documentations) i have a different combination of name on every doc. They told me i can always add them once we get the forms for the interview stage. In egypt they are not middle names they just his dads name, grandfather's name etc.
