Hi VJ Members <3

Here I am again, asking for your help and advices regarding with this issue.

I am planning to petition my mom here in the US. So we are getting ready with all the docs needed.

My mom got her late birth registration. But the thing is, they misspelled my mom's first name. :(

The spelling is totally different from my birth certificate. :star:

So my Q is, what could we possibly do? Does anyone have this case too?

Your comments and advices are highly appreciated.

Thank you.

I'm not sure if USCIS or NVC or USEM still accepting Notarized letter explaining the typo of your mom's name. Otherwise, you have to contact NSO and ask them what steps to fix your mom's middle name typo. When we were petitioned, we only used Notarized Letter on my gender typos. (It says FEMALE but I'm MALE...hehehe!) and on my mom's middle name. That's way back 1996. Actually, I still haven't fix my gender typo and mom's middle name typo. I was told that i will need a court hearing to fix it, and it would take a 1-2 months, which is not possible for me to do coz i have work here in the US and can't go on vacation more than 5 weeks

When i was at US Embassy of Manila last year trying to get a marriage clearance, I overheard that USEM no longer accepting notarized letter on typo mistakes on Birth Cert.

If you're in a hurry, use the birth cert as it is. If not in a hurry, and you wish to correct it, then do so. Once she gets here, it won't matter, cuz she will get her US ID with proper spelling.

if it is just only a misspelled and it is still sounds like the same with the name she used to... ex: jane to jean or anne to ann then you can go to nearest LCR. you dont have to go court to correct that. your mom can go to LCR where she lives now or much easier if she goes to LCR where her BC is registered...she can correct it with Republic act 9048, LCR will advice her what to do...mine it takes 2 and 1/2 months for correction.
