Shipping Personal Items from Ukraine

We are paying a considerable amount for the extra bag for Lena's Lufthansa flight to the US. I've checked a number of international shipping/freight companies prices and was astounded with their quotes (i.e., 100 kilos = $1200 port to port). Can anyone suggest a pocket book friendly company for us? Otherwise, the remaining 100 bikini, etc. must stay in the Ukraine

If by going by what other people's wives have experienced, when she learns that clothes and shoes in America are "almost free," she may not care about her old stuff.

I have friends who have shipped by regular Russian mail for reasonable cost. I would check out Ukrainian post.

I agree. Keep the personal items to a minimum. She will want new clothes of course and you will most likely spoil her a little buying them for her. There is also that problem of living in America with the additional weight gain that seems to be inevitable. Also, you know that there will be return trips to her home, so you can pick up other things on subsequent trips.

Does Meest provide packing materials? Sounds silly but, are there any packaging centers in the big cities where cardboard cartons can be purchased? Lena is at a loss as to where she will find boxes. Where is a UHaul Store when you need one?

I have found an acceptable solution. Meest has an office in Kharkov and to ship personal items, it will cost 5.00 USD per kg port-to-port. At 50 and above kilos, the cost drops slightly to 4.40 USD per kg. To have the items picked up in Ukraine and delivered to the US residence, add an additional 85 USD.

Very very true. My wife always dismissed my weight as needing to move more. Well now that she's a Lane Bryant shopper trying to lose the weight she packed on after arriving here, she understands that there's a little more to it. Of course, now her mother tells her to move more. Oh, the irony...

I've used Meest several times in the past to ship parcels (both sea and air) from Ukraine to US, US to Ukraine, Russia to US and US to Russia, usually no issues but there were several occasions where the parcels either disappeared or majority of the contents were removed. If your package does not arrive or is missing contents, do not bother calling Meest customer service, they provide no help and the so called 'insurance' is useless.

Best option is to charge everything (air / sea shipment cost, delivery fee, etc) to a credit card and then initiate a chargeback with your bank if your package goes missing entirely or is missing contents, at least you'll get some money back.

My wife has lost 10% of her original weight since she arrived to the USA. She cannot longer find clothes in the USA that fit her. It is a big problem for her, starting with shoes. So far the solution has been to buy clothes for girls instead of women, but that causes other issues (everybody believes that she's my daughter).

Probably it is my fault: I don't feed her often
