Will tourist visa denials prior to interview be an issue?

My fiance interviews in one month for her visa. Just the other day, she went with her mother for a tourist visa for the mom (to visit us in the US after we receive the K1). The request was denied based on the fact that my fiance has little income and the mother had no tax return from the previous year (she works very little). They plan to have my fiance's ex provide his financials the next time around, which will be plenty sufficient for the brazilian gov't.

Normally this wouldn't be a big deal, except that my fiance was denied a tourist visa in late 2010, when she said the reason for her trip was to visit a friend (despite me telling her not to say this). The brazilian gov't mentioned this denial the other day, when the mother interviewed for the tourist visa.

I'm not too worried about the K1 interview as we have a legit relationship with a mountain of evidence to support it. It seems to me that a tourist visa should have no bearing on the K1 visa except that they may think she really just wants to get into the US and therefore our relationship is questionable.

I've told her to just be honest during the interview and things should work out. I firmly believe that, although this latest denial has me wary given that the family has two recent denials on record.

Anyone have advice or insight on how this might affect her interview?

Previous tourist visa denial has no effect on K-1 visa. Though I am curious what the Brazilian government has to do with any of this?

That is so weird that your fiancé's mom got denied just because your fiancé got denied before.

My parents got approved and the reason for their visa was to visit me, after I get my K1. My parents only said, we are going to my daughter's wedding, she is going through the K1 visa process. Done, approved. 10 years tourist visa.

Well, maybe she can try again in some months after your fiancé's is already living there...hopefully she will get approved. God luck!

You're right, it has nothing to do with the brazilian gov't. Got my entities confused. Should've said US embassy

That's good to hear. Technically my fiance's mom wasn't denied because my fiance had been denied, they just mentioned that my fiance had already had a denial. The reason for denial this time was lack of financial support I think.

Glad to hear everything worked out for you!

Ah! and answering your other question: I have seen my people that got approved (K1) that have previously got their tourist visa denied, so that will not be an issue for your lady. :)

Ahhh. Just curious and thought maybe Brazil had some weird exit rules or something.

Good luck at the interview and no worries over the denied tourist visa. Just make sure she mentions it when asked.
