I-797 and My Case Status

My I-130 packet for the my (us citizen) petition for my wife was received in Chicago on Jun 6 and sent to the Vermont Service Center. They sent me a I-797 form and instructed me to go to their web site and enter the receipt# on my case status after I got the I-797. So far there are no updates. What gives? Is this normal and if so how long should I expect to wait before they even update anything?

Hi. Mine took 3 months (CSC) for approval. I don't know for Vermont though.

What I did was to monitor the K3 visa processing times >>> http://www.visajourney.com/content/k3historical. You can check out processing times for CR1 too.

If you are expecting updates all the time your going to be in a world of hurt quick.

I got approved in 77 days (FAST compared to others) from CSC. I saw no updates until the day my case was approved. It's normal for the process to take the full duration of 150 days that USCIS states on their websites. Some have been waiting well past the 150 day mark.

You need to have patience in this process... or it's gonna really hack away at you...

Good Luck on your immigration journey!

This timeline will be your friend for the next several months... http://www.visajourney.com/timeline/monthly_filers.php?visa=3&form=2&scenter=2&option=3&sortby=1

Ain't nothin' good about the USCIS web site--at the very best it will frustrate you, and we have seen countless people depressed, depressed, depressed--there is an honest expectation that you can follow your progress, and 99.99% of the time that is false--stay away from it unless you are a masochist !!

Yeah, I know--you'll look everyday just in case, but realize the odds are there will never be a just in case.
