The petitioner is the one who is supposed to prove that the beneficiary will not become a public charge in the USA. The beneficiary is moving out of his/her country so his/her current income is not of much importance - the petitioner is the one responsible of support especially in the beginning when the beneficiary cannot work.

The i-134 proves the petitioner covers the poverty guidelines for the current year - by stating employment, assets, etc. and backing it up with additional relevant info - employment letter, pay stubs, tax returns. For the i-134, you need to cover 100% of the minimal poverty guidelines, but keep in mind most consulates expect you to prove you can cover 125%, which will be what you will need for the Adjustment of Status once the beneficiary arrives in the US and you get married.

If the petitioner does not have enough income he/she can use another sponsor - best if it's a close relative who knows the beneficiary, otherwise it could be suspicious on the interview! Also, some Consulates are picky about using another sponsor, too..

Even if using a co-sponsor, the petitioner still needs to fill out the i-134, to the best of my knowledge.

Best of luck!!

Make sure you check the example form of i-134 here on the VJ, it's under Example Forms :)

The form itself instructs you what to do if you're self-employed.

I don't think you need to notarize it, because on the bottom of the form where you sign your name it says "I certify under penalty or perjury under the Unites States law....." so this itself should make it the same as any other U.S. form you've filled so far - the i-129f, for example. Your signature is enough. Then again, I'm not quite sure about this, somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

If you have to notarize it, go to a Notary Public!

In question 11, do I check the box or leave it black. In the example form, its blank.

In question 11, do I check the box or leave it black. In the example form, its blank. Also, what documents do I send with it?

You can do it like the example form, not check anything and put: N/A ( K1 visa process for permanent residence )

Plenty have done that and been fine.

I personally checked Intend, and put: K-1 visa process for permanent residence ( provide all expenses as necessary )
