I'd strongly suggest you go just because it's not Texas. When I was there, I was visited by one of my brothers who hates to even get his hands dirty. He disappeared to the beach at Echo Cove every day for a week because he found the serenity he wasn't getting in his stressful job back east. My dad found it to be just the right mix for him between the city and the wilderness, and that's about right.

You should go, seriously. I think everyone should go just once, it's that great a place to visit. You can take a dinner cruise to Glacier Bay, take a helicopter ride to walk on the Mendenhall glacier, and take the tramway up to Mt. Roberts. Fishing is fantastic. We used to go out after work and catch dinner for that night. On the weekends, we'd pull crab pots and have a crab fest at home. That's one thing I miss almost every day about living in Juneau, free fresh seafood and plenty of it. I also miss the slow pace of life and the clean air, but I don't miss the rain.

If yo do go, don't take a cruise, go up on the ferry thru the Inside Passage. It's not that expensive and its a great intro the the way of life there. Also, DON'T take new clothes, take old clothes and lots of jeans, or you'll stick out like a sore thumb. And, very important that you avoid using umbrellas, no matter how much it rains. Only tourists use umbrellas there. And, try hard not to walk around with your mouth hanging open because you can't believe the beauty.

I have been to Alaska twice but back in the 80's but around Anchorage. Never been down to Juneau. I am planning on my babe and I to go visit her and joke around a lot with her about always making me work out so much when I come visit her but always enjoy it. For some reason my sis loves me a lot and I do her. Also hoping and she says she wants to come with us and visit Vietnam. I have been to every state and most of Canada and Mexico.
