Interview complete but ... passport needs my surname

My wife recently had her interview at the US Embassy in Manilla for her IR-1. All went well except she was told to return back with the surname on her passport changed to match mine. Is this common? Any thoughts or experiences would be appreciated. Kind of nervous head the Philippines has a not so good approval ate.

Did you process everything with USCIS and NVC in married name? My wife requested NVC to process in her maiden name and she had her interview yesterday and they didn't say anything about changing her passport. We are planning to change her passport once we get to the US.

I assume you've been married two years now since she is IR-1. Maybe they think she should have changed it by now?

u just have to do it. . .take the CFO seminar, and then DFA. She's gonna have to renew her passport. better do it right away, passport system here in the Philippines is really slow. my daughter's passport took 2months.

Hi! You said IR-1? So I am thinking you've been married for more than 2 years. If that's the case, she will get a 10-year green card. The name on the green card will be that of her passport. If that's the case, it will be better to have her passport change and have her green card under her married name to avoid any problems in the future (such as bringing documents every time to prove that she is your wife). But I dunno for sure.. Mine is just an assumption.

Did you use her maiden name on the USCIS and NVC forms? The name you used when applying for her visa should be name showing on her passport. We filed for CR-1 but before we did, I changed my passport and used my husband's last name. So that, all the documents will be on my married name.. Passport, forms, green card.. etc.

Thanks all for the quick replies, as many of you said already, it seems like consulate just wants here passport to reflect what is on her paperwork. Well her passport get released this 16th of June so all I can do is wait.

It's the consistent result when the beneficiary fails to change the name in their passport to match the name on the petition and visa application. The visa is issued in the name on the passport, which should match the name on the petition and visa application.
