What kind of marriage certificate is required for the visa interview? We have the marriage certificate that we and our witnesses signed the day we got married. Is this sufficient, or do we need the official typewritten copy? If so, how can we get it?

I think what the witnesses signed (I am assuming you were married in Canada) was the registry, not the certificate. You need the offical one with the provincial seal

They send the regisry to the province who then registers the marriage and issues the certificate

The wife and I were married in Las Vegas. They gave me a copy of the certificate they were forwarding to the county clerk's office, and I included that in my I-130 package. Said package was returned to me for something else (I forgot to sign the form...grimace), and by that time I had the clerk's version with the seal on it. I added it to the package right behind the copy I had sent the first time before I returned it.

Technically, it's supposed to be the "official" one with the seal. You can send it in with what you've got, but do you really want to deal with an RFE because someone noticed that the one you sent doesn't have the seal on it?

We were married in New Brunswick. When we started the process at the Halifax consulate we used the one mentioned above and there was no trouble no mention that it was wrong.
