I was wondering if I will encounter any problems using Expedia to book the plane tickets for my fiancee once her visa is delivered?

I created her account on Expedia and made myself her travel arranger, so I can book flights with her traveler information and pay them with my credit card. An Expedia call center agent (a Filipina I'm pretty sure) said that this was okay. From a few other discussion on this forum, however, it seems that sometimes people at the airport may ask to see a credit card number (but not all the time does this happen). Do you think this would really happen? I was thinking about using Japan Airlines/American Airlines, or perhaps Philippine Airlines/Delta. She could fly to LAX using Philippine Airlines and just pay cash, but I don't believe she could find a ticket for say, United Airlines, going from LAX to SAT. I think it's just better if I can create her entire itinerary, well, actually two (1st is from MNL to LAX, then 2nd is from LAX to SAT - much cheaper to separate the flights like that).

If anyone has any thoughts, I'd love to hear.

My experience tells me that you should be okay. I sent my fiancee tickets to travel from Dubai to Phil. and she did not have any issue.

I sent her a copy of my credit card and driver license just in case, but she told me she did not need it.

Here is what Delta's website says http://www.delta.com/planning_reservations/plan_flight/online_reservations/about_reservations/index.jsp

Credit/Debit Card Presentation

To safeguard against credit/debit card fraud, the purchaser may have to show us the credit/debit card along with a valid photo ID. The time varies based on the billing address of the credit/debit card or the country of travel. If the purchaser is not traveling, they can show us their credit/debit card and ID at an airport ticket counter or another ticket office location, whichever is most convenient.

I book flights at my job for the executives traveling internationally almost weekly. The best way around the credit card issue, use a travel agent. This is especially true with Korean Air. Great airline. But I use Kitty Travel in New York. Ask for Tony :)

A xerox copy of your credit card is enough. I did it before with a US carrier and didn't have any problem.

My wife and I had no worries in this department.

My wife bought her ticket from a travel agent in Iloilo who was one of her batchmates in college.

Before my wife's interview, the batchmate saved a window seat for her. When my wife finally had the visa in-hand, she went back to the travel agency and paid cash for the ticket.

Slightly off topic but related.

I booked hotels with Agoda.com using my online secure citi credit card.

The card number used does not match the physical card number. If you have used online numbers you know what I am talking about.

They ask for you to give a copy of the hotel voucher, received in an email and present the physical card for verification at checkin.

I used a screen print of the online card and the voucher with no problems.

united is good, just a scan copy of the passport to verify id with the self check in. SFO or vegas might be cheaper. Check out Philippine airlines to San Francisco or Vegas, then to san antanio. Sometimes you can get a special for Southwest. there is also hawiaiian air as well. (Manila to Honolulu to Phoenix to San Antonio) I have found booking through PAL is sometimes by far cheaper then in Expedia recently. I am just happy that there is a special coming for PAL from August through January. (Vegas to manila is $915 roundtrip not including taxes --#1,462 and southwest for me is $139)

Also, keep in mind with expedia, if you miss one leg, all following legs will be cancelled. There is also cheapoair. But I have started planning my own bookings versus just taking what a travel agent gives me. Sometimes I find ways to save. (My last flight I saved $1,000 by booking myself through PAL, USAir, and United.)

If you book it through Expedia or any third party like Travelocity you will not need to present the credit card to the airline as they pay the carrier on your behalf when you buy the ticket from them. If you book directly through an airline, such as Delta or Phil Air then they may ask for the credit card.

I just purchased the tickets with American airline miles. Only had to pay about $130 in tax and processing tees. I could not pay for them over the phone. They required the payment to be made in the Phillipeans. At first they asked for payment in person at the ticket office in Manila. After we talked to the person at the manila ticket office we were told that if a deposit was made to the Tacloban branch of there bank, we could FAX or email the receipt and passport pages and they would email back the eticket info.

The online American Airlines agent said that the Phillipeans is the ONLY country in the world that has this "local purchase" requirement.

Hi, in my experience, my then fiance ( now husband :)) used expedia too. I booked my ticket (Delta airlines)online using his credit card. They (expedia) emailed me my booking number, but after a day emailed me back saying that the airline (Delta) couldn't confirm my flight, so my husband had to call expedia to book me the same flight. 10 minutes later they emailed me that my flight is confirmed. At the airport I had no problem, I just showed them my itinerary and they gave me my ticket. They didn't ask for my husband's ID or credit card.

I am new here but couldn't help but comment onthis one that is similar to my experience. I use expedia too but when I check in online at delta in the airport I was not in the list among with others so we have to call an attendant which is a hassle. I don't know who is at fault here whether expedia or delta. I have been billed also with an insurance which I didn't know it was added already and which I didn't like.
