Can you someone from India tell me where to get PCC from?

I see conflicting information as someone says PCC should be obtained from local passport office only, others says PCC from passport office and from district SP office of places in India where applicant stayed for more than 6 months.

US Consulate-Chennai website says PCC should be obtained from local passport office only.

thanks for your help.

The regional passport office will not issue a passport clearance certificate unless you submit a original police clearance form from your district Sp or commissioner's office along with the application of passport clearance .

Twinklestar,

Thanks for the reply. My spouse did her undergraduation in a different city (away from her native town) but in a same state and worked there for few years. In this case should we also get two PC certificates - one from SP office of native district and 2nd one from SP office of a town where she studied/worked?

Chennai Consulate website says PCC should be obtained from local passport office only.

Police clearance certificate should be obtainted from regional passport office and district police station.

We have obtained PCC from Regional Passport Office (RPO) only. Mumbai consulates needs PCC from RPO only. What I heard is sometimes (mostly in Gujarat) the RPO may ask police clearance from the places where applicant resided before issuing a PCC.

However, in my case, our RPO did not ask for any such thing and issued PCC on the same day.

From your profile, it looks like you are gonna apply for a PCC from Chennai RPO. I think it should be straightforward for you. Also do not forget to include your local home address only when you apply for PCC at RPO.

Good luck.
