The petition for my wife in China has been approved after 5 months.

As I understand, the next step is for my wife to receive a letter from NVC.

1, DO I also receive a letter from NVC too?

2, When they send letter/package to my wife, do they use the address in PinYin, or in Chinese? Has anybody experienced delivery problem?

Thanks in advance.

your wife is to receive a letter? Really? EEK. Postal Mail? NO NO NO.

Look, most folk that hang out here at VJ want speed.

For Speed, study LingChe on the wiki. (and get prepared to use the telephone, soonish)

But.

China, for IR-1/CR-1 visas, has an Electronic Processing OPTION. Should you and yer wife decide to OPT IN, all is handled via email.

You will get a same letter from NVC with DS3032 form, so does your wife. I can not recall the address in mail is in Pinyin or Chinese Characters. But do not worry, if it is in Pinyin, the post office usually will transfer it into Chinese characters. Whatever, it is not important since you can download DS 3032 form online.

After you get the letter, you will have a case number. From here, you can choose electronic processing OPIN. Study electronic procssing. Since then all communication with NVC will be done through emails.

Thank you for your kind response. Now I don't have to worry that we will not get a NVC letter and a case number, as long as I will also get the same letter. On that approval letter, it does not indicate that the petitioner will be contacted about the future steps.

Thank you for your thoughts and links.

I have been studying the steps, but as a IT dummy, I can not scan stuff because HP printer's scan function does not work! :(

My wife should be able to get the scanning done at one of those many copy shops in China. But I have to do I-864. Maybe I will take a picture of my conpleted I-864 and eamil it to her to make it a PDF.

Another thing is that I may need to have a co-sponsor. Then if the co-sponsor is not tech savvy and can't do the electronic step, then I have to go with the slow process. Am I right on this?

I am not too concerned about the speed, since I don't have a job right now and I have spent half of the time with her since our marriage last year. I have visited her twice since last Nov. and will see her again in 3 weeks...:)

can you scan anything as a multipage tiff in black and white, at 200 dpi? those usually make a 95K per page file,

and then if you 'got that' - can convert IN irfanview

if

you install the cutepdf pdf driver, simply

open it in irfanview, print to file via cutepdf.

at this stage, if you can't get it done, suggest to hire a teenager, some studious fella that just finished senior year of high school - they seem to know all and are very intuitive.

failing that, get to yer local kinko's/fedex office store, have a tech there to do it.

it's a little too much for me, IT dummy. My wife says those copy shops in China can to it cheaply. So I will take a picture os I-864 form and send her through email, have her change it to PDF.

BTW, then on the DS-3032, should she be the agent to send the forms (3032, 230)?

why 'take a photo' of the I-864, when it starts life as PDF fillable form?

Seriously, go find a teenager. Show them the wiki page on NVC Electronic Processing.

---

For NVC EP - She needs to follow the OPT IN process exactly.

Regardless of the Agent of Choice in the DS-3032, SHE can send in the DS-230, when NVC IV is ready for it.

Can you utilize the NVC Online Payment Portal? it saves time, as well. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/221785-ds-3032-slowdown/page__view__findpost__p__3560467

you need forms? have the teenager review them? please?

For those USCitizens that call NVC, exchange email addresses with a human, a DS-3032 kit is emailed out to both the USCitizen and the Foreign Spouse. EMAILED.

For those who never contact the NVC via telephone, there is a 'postal mail' trail, takes 3 months per thing (DS-3032, DS-230, I-864) for a total of 9 months of postal mail processing. I can see how the postal address would be meaningful here (pinyin vs chinese characters vs something else) but

most ppl at VJ (including you :D ) want speed, and at LEAST follow LingChe shortcuts on the wiki, utilizing the payment portal as well.

EP is cool in many respects - my fav is that there's no 'postal address issues' for 'receiving forms from NVC' at all.

Other than my older daughter, who is 13, I don't know any other teenager:(

So taking a picture of the I-864 and sending it to my wife is easier. The people at those copy/photo shops in China can convert to pdf cheaply.

I will pay online once I have both my wife's and his son's case numbers.

harry - strongly suggest you find a teenager - go into the local high school, talk to the IT instructor, tell the teacher you wish to PAY a teenager.

So taking a picture of the I-864 and sending it to my wife is easier what type of camera will you use?

I can not scan stuff because HP printer's scan function does not work! :(

Suggest you get the installation CD that came with your printer, and re-install the software.

Usually if 'a button on the MultiFunctionDevice' isn't tied to 'instant OS hook' for doing something, it's a software problem, usually fixed by reinstallation.

OTOH, can you use a software package, instead, to start the scanning portion from the computer? (as opposed to pressing a button on the multi-function device)
